Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed 350 patients with gastric cancer and found that perineural invasion (PNI) is an independent marker of poor prognosis in gastric cancer, correlated with T staging, lymph node metastasis, and lymphovascular invasion.

Summary: Gastric cancer (GC) has a poor prognosis and phosphorylated FAK (pFAK) is identified as a negative prognostic factor in GC. This study demonstrates that pFAK is an independent risk factor for a worse prognosis in GC and a nomogram based on pFAK can help predict overall survival in GC patients, improving the accuracy of prognosis prediction.

Summary: The study evaluated the importance of textbook outcome (TO) in gastric cancer and found that a definition combining complete tumor resection with uneventful postoperative course had good predictive performance and prognostic value. TO can be used as a reference indicator for quality improvement programs.

Summary: This study assessed the incidence of textbook outcome (TO) among patients undergoing curative gastric cancer resection and found an achievement rate of 41.1%. Age, comorbidity index, neoadjuvant treatment, multivisceral resection, and hospital type were associated with the achievement of TO. TO was associated with patient survival.

Summary: This study aimed to identify factors associated with the risk and timing of recurrence after resection of hepatocellular carcinoma based on differences in tumor burden score. The results showed that tumor burden score was independently associated with a higher risk of recurrence. Patients with a high tumor burden score were more likely to experience early recurrence with multiple tumors and at an extrahepatic site. Tumor burden score is an important tool in assessing the risk, timing, and pattern of recurrence after resection of hepatocellular carcinoma.

Summary: By analyzing conditional survival estimates of esophageal cancer patients, it was found that these estimates generally increase over time, with the largest improvements observed for patients with advanced stage. Providing updated prognosis at various time points allows clinicians to better guide their patients; furthermore, even after 5 years, esophageal cancer patients still face a higher risk of recurrence and sustained excess mortality compared to the general population.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the predictive value of D-dimer for postoperative outcomes in gastric cancer patients undergoing radical gastrectomy. The results showed that elevated D-dimer was associated with older age, advanced TNM stage, larger tumor size, and lower 5-year survival rates. Multivariate analysis revealed that elevated D-dimer was independently associated with shorter overall survival and disease-free survival. The results after propensity score matching further supported this conclusion.

Summary: Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection is the main cause of gastric cancer, but other bacterial species may also play a role. This study found that the mucosal microbial community in the stomach is associated with the prognosis of gastric cancer. The abundance of Fusobacterium and Prevotella is significantly associated with worse overall survival in gastric cancer patients.

Summary: The mucosal microbial community in the stomach is associated with worse overall survival in gastric cancer patients, with the genus Fusobacterium and Prevotella being significantly associated with poor prognosis. The abundance of Fusobacterium nucleatum in tumorous specimens has the strongest negative impact on prognosis.

Summary: This study compared the impact of portal vein and capsular vein MVI on HCC recurrence and overall survival. The results showed that both-MVI type is an independent risk factor for HCC recurrence, especially for extrahepatic recurrence.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the relationship between surgery-induced lymphopenia and prognosis in patients with gastric cancer. The results showed that a decrease in pre- and post-treatment absolute lymphocyte count was associated with poor relapse-free survival and overall survival after curative resection in gastric cancer patients.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between tumor location and prognostic factors in gastric cancer patients and found that tumor localization is not a prognostic factor. Total gastrectomy for distal gastric cancer did not affect the survival rate.

Summary: This study found that patients with LN+ metastatic colorectal cancer exhibit more high-risk pathological features, peritoneal seeding, and systemic node metastasis, leading to poorer long-term outcomes compared to LN- patients. However, with curative resection, LN+ patients could have similar survival outcomes as LN- patients.

Summary: This retrospective study aimed to determine whether patients with stage I gastric cancer would benefit from adjuvant chemotherapy after curative resection. The results showed that patients receiving adjuvant chemotherapy had lower 10-year recurrence-free survival rates compared to those who did not receive chemotherapy, but the two groups had similar 10-year disease-specific survival rates. These findings suggest that adjuvant chemotherapy may not provide survival benefits for patients with stage I gastric cancer after surgery.
