Summary: Transorbital approaches have shown promising potentials in skull base surgery as versatile surgical routes. They can be a valuable adjunct or even an alternative to traditional routes, providing opportunities for selected patients with intraorbital, skull base, and intra-axial lesions. However, their relatively recent development and unfamiliarity in the skull base community underline the importance of personalized training, adequate case volume, and a dedicated setting for achieving proficiency. Genetic, omics, and biological features should guide the selection of current and future applications in a multidisciplinary environment.

Summary: The retrospective cohort study aimed to assess the incidence and characteristics of complications in patients who underwent orthognathic procedures. The majority of complications observed during and following orthognathic surgical procedures are temporary or minor and require little or no treatment at all.

Summary: This paper evaluates the pediatric surgery training pipeline in relation to the pediatric surgery match and operative experience of pediatric surgery fellows. It found that although pediatric surgery fellowship remains highly selective, there has been a decline in the operative experience for graduating fellows.

Summary: The study found that neurosurgical robots in brain and spine surgery demonstrated excellent reliability, safety, and efficacy, with better time efficiency compared to neuronavigation, but no shortening of surgery time compared to conventional stereotaxy. Time efficiency differed significantly between framed and non-framed workflows.

Summary: Breast fibromatosis is a rare condition that mainly affects young patients. Current management favors an observation-based approach over surgical resection due to high recurrence rates and associated surgical risks. Dedicated guidelines are needed to ensure optimal outcomes.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed six cases of lung resection for pulmonary coccidioidomycosis at Chiba University Hospital and summarized their clinical features and histopathological findings. The results showed that all patients had a history of travel to the Southwestern United States, and preoperative serology and chest CT findings were helpful for diagnosis.

Summary: This historical study investigates the natural history of coccidioidomycosis of the lungs in American soldiers in the 1950s. The study characterized the disease using a database recorded prior to modern antifungal therapy and found low mortality rates, different characteristics of cavities and nodules, and variations in complement fixation titers.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the 5-year progression-free and overall survival in patients with uterine carcinosarcoma and identify factors that influence survival. The study found that uterine carcinosarcoma is an aggressive cancer with lower survival rates than other contemporary cohorts. Full staging surgery and additional treatment modalities improve survival in these patients.

Summary: Serologic rebound after antifungal treatment for primary pulmonary coccidioidomycosis is uncommon but may result in longer clinical follow-up. Continued monitoring of such patients is important to identify those who develop subsequent symptoms and extra-thoracic dissemination.

Summary: This study compared hearing outcomes and complications of endoscopic and microscopic stapes surgery performed by the same surgeon over a 10-year period. It found that both techniques showed similar results in terms of safety and efficacy. While endoscopic surgery had a steeper learning curve, with experience, surgical duration became adequate from the initial cases.

Summary: This study reviewed adverse events and complications of orthognathic surgery over the past 10 years. The most common immediate post-operative sequelae was neurosensory disturbance. The most frequent complications were relapse, post-operative TMD, unfavorable osteotomy, and infection, which were more common in males. Complication rates were significantly influenced by bleeding volume, operative time, and type of skeletal deformity. Although numerous complications were recorded, no fatal complications were experienced. Operative time was one of the most significant factors.

Summary: This study aimed to improve the accuracy of lung cancer prediction models by incorporating clinic-level differences in nodule evaluation and considering missing data. Clinical and radiographic data of 1,401 patients with IPNs were retrospectively collected and divided into groups based on clinical setting. A new prediction model, TREAT 2.0, was developed and compared with other existing models.
