Summary: This study evaluated the incidence and predictive factors for bile leakage (BL) after hepatic resection for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), as well as its impact on long-term survival outcomes. The results showed that BL did not significantly impair long-term outcomes after surgery, and the main risk factors for BL included Child-Pugh class, macroscopic portal vein invasion, liver resection extent, and Pringle's maneuver use.

Summary: The study developed two reliable nomograms to predict extrahepatic recurrence and early intrahepatic recurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma after hepatic resection. These nomograms showed good predictive performance and could guide the selection of treatment strategies for hepatocellular carcinoma patients by surgeons.

Summary: This study compared the efficacy of liver resection (LR) and percutaneous microwave coagulation therapy (PMCT) for small hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with different degrees of liver cirrhosis. LR provided better surgical outcomes but PMCT had similar long-term results and lower surgical complications in HCC patients with severe cirrhosis.

Summary: This study examined the prognostic significance of rapid turnover proteins in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma after hepatic resection. Results showed that a high RTP score was associated with both disease-free and overall survival, indicating the importance of RTP in assessing nutritional status in cancer patients.

Summary: The study evaluated the experience of liver resection for hepatocellular carcinoma patients with macroscopic portal vein invasion and found that patients with macroscopic PVI had lower overall survival rates and higher incidence of post-operative morbidities. However, there were no significant differences in terms of recurrence rate and disease-free survival rates between the two groups.

Summary: The aim of the study was to evaluate whether the presence of varices on CT could predict treatment outcomes for hepatocellular carcinoma patients. The study found that the presence of CT-enhanced CSPH surrogate, including varices on CT, was a significant predictive factor for poor overall survival, providing better predictive power than the standard surrogate.

Summary: This study examined the prognostic significance of the combination of the FIB-4 index and PIVKA-II in patients who underwent curative resection for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The results showed that high PIVKA-II and FIB-4 index values were independent predictors of both disease-free survival and overall survival. The PIVKA-II-FIB-4 index score could be used to assess liver fibrosis status in cancer cases.

Summary: This study investigates the role of HSC-derived M2BPGi in activating KCs and how it impacts liver regeneration. The findings suggest that the M2BPGi-activated KCs secrete GRP78, which promotes hepatocyte proliferation and facilitates liver regeneration. The administration of GRP78 improves the survival rate in a lethal mouse model of liver failure.

Summary: The association between tumor microenvironment (TME) and cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) in intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) progression is poorly understood. This study aimed to investigate the role of specific microRNAs (miRNAs) in extracellular vesicles (EVs) derived from CAFs in ICC progression. The results showed that miR-493-5p in CAF-derived EVs promoted tumor cell proliferation by suppressing CARTPT expression in ICC cells.

Summary: This case report describes a case of improved congestion in the residual lung after left upper trisegmentectomy with conservative treatment under careful observation. The patient developed blood sputum after surgery, and CT scan showed consolidation and stenosis in the left lung. Conservative treatment with antibiotics and close follow-up by CT led to gradual improvement of pulmonary congestion and inflammation, and the patient was discharged home on day 26 after surgery.

Summary: Macrophages play crucial roles in AAA formation through inflammation and matrix degradation. IL-38, which has an anti-inflammatory effect, may suppress AAA formation by regulating macrophages. In this study, IL-38 treatment reduced M1 macrophage accumulation and MMP-2 and -9 expression in the AAA wall, leading to a decreased incidence of AAA. Additionally, p38 phosphorylation was found to be involved in the protective effects of IL-38 on regulating macrophages and reducing AAA incidence.
