Summary: This study examines the differences in plasma proteomic profiles between body mass index (BMI) and waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), and their associations with the incidence of diabetes. It is found that WHR-specific proteins are associated with diabetes risk, while BMI-specific proteins are not.

Summary: The waist circumference (WC) and hip circumference (HC) show independent and opposite associations with liver disease and liver enzymes, particularly among men. HC can modify the associations between WC and liver enzymes and liver disease. WC and HC jointly reflect body fat distribution and muscle mass, which are important factors contributing to overall health.

Summary: This study demonstrates that waist-corrected body mass index (wBMI), combining BMI and waist circumference measurements, is superior in predicting obesity and diabetes mellitus (DM). The study found a significant association between wBMI and the incidence of DM, with wBMI being a more reliable predictor compared to waist circumference, BMI, and waist-to-height ratio.

Summary: The study evaluates the accuracy of anthropometric indices in identifying obesity and risk factors for non-communicable diseases (NCDs), as well as investigating the emergence of obesity-related NCDs in young women in Sri Lanka. Measurements of height, weight, body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), and other indicators were taken. The results show that BMI, WC, WHtR, and hip circumference (HC) are intercorrelated measurements that can be used alone or in combination to define obesity and detect NCD risk. Additionally, BMI, A Body Shape Index (ABSI), and hip index (HI) combine separate risks to generate an overall anthropometric risk index (ARI), which appears to be a highly effective predictor of cardiovascular disease.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the association of BMI and waist-hip ratio (WHR) with semen quality. The results showed that BMI was weakly associated with sperm progressive motility, while WHR had no relationship with semen parameters. Additionally, underweight individuals had a higher rate of azoospermia, while overweight individuals had lower sperm concentration.

Summary: This study used Mendelian randomization (MR) to investigate the causal relationship between body size and glaucoma risk. The results showed that increased body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC) were associated with a higher risk of glaucoma, while waist-to-hip ratio adjusted by body mass index (WHRadjBMI) and waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) were not associated with glaucoma.

Summary: This study aims to develop formulas based on waist circumference (WC) and body mass index (BMI) to predict visceral adipose tissue (VAT) area and determine the cut-off values for central obesity in Indonesian men. The study included 32 middle-aged Indonesian men and used abdominal CT scans to measure VAT area, and anthropometric measurements to assess WC and BMI. Strong positive correlations were found between WC and VAT, as well as BMI and VAT. The formulas predicted WC of 88.5 cm and BMI of 23.9 kg/m(2) as the optimal cut-off values for central obesity in middle-aged Indonesian men.

Summary: The study found an association between obesity/overweight and structural brain abnormalities, with BMI and WC relating to brain structure and hippocampal volume. However, in longitudinal studies, BMI showed no significant association with overall brain structural abnormalities, while WC and WHR were linked to lacunar infarcts and WMH.

Summary: This study shows that BMI, waist circumference, and WHtR equally predict the development of hyperuricemia, and weight loss and waist circumference reduction are favorable in preventing hyperuricemia. Participants with weight loss of >= 4 kg or waist circumference loss of >= 6 cm had a lower risk of hyperuricemia, while weight gain increased the risk.

Summary: Pressurized Intraperitoneal Aerosol chemotherapy (PIPAC) is a new surgical technique for treating unresectable peritoneal carcinomatosis. This study estimated the mean cost of hospitalization for PIPAC in two French public teaching hospitals. The results showed that each PIPAC hospitalization cost the hospital an average of 2531 euros, while the fixed-rate remuneration was only 4031 euros.

Summary: This study aims to describe the patterns of HRQoL changes at 6 months after high-risk oncological surgery and assess the level of regret among patients and their next-of-kin regarding the decision to undergo surgery. Patients over 18 years old undergoing specific surgeries are included in this prospective observational cohort study. The primary outcome is the proportion of patients with changes in HRQoL at 6 months after surgery, while the secondary outcome is to assess regret levels.

Summary: Gastrointestinal cancer surgery is the primary treatment for gastrointestinal cancers. Prehabilitation before surgery aims to optimize the patient's condition and improve postoperative recovery. This review summarizes the latest evidence of preoperative prehabilitation on postoperative outcomes and discusses potential therapeutic targets. Preoperative interventions combining nutrition and physical activity show improvements in physical performance and quality of life in patients with esophagogastric and colorectal cancers, but no benefits in postoperative complications and mortality. Further studies are needed to confirm these findings and identify patients who will benefit from prehabilitation.
