Summary: The study compared the integrity of esophagogastrostomy between the greater curvature (GC) and lesser curvature (LC) of the gastric conduit after esophagectomy. Anastomotic leakage rates were similar in both groups, but the sites of leakage differed significantly. Additionally, the rate of stump leakage was significantly higher in the GC group, while the rate of anastomotic stricture was significantly higher in the LC group.

Summary: Esophagectomy can lead to various complications, including cardiopulmonary complications and anastomotic leaks. This study aimed to compare the outcomes of end-to-end (ETE) anastomosis and end-to-side (ETS) anastomosis in terms of postoperative complications, operative time, and hospital stay. The results showed that ETE anastomosis had a lower rate of anastomotic leakage compared to ETS anastomosis.

Summary: This study compared the outcomes of side-to-side (S-S) and end-to-end (E-E) anastomosis after ileocecal resection in Crohn's disease patients. The results showed no significant differences in postoperative complications and endoscopic recurrence between the two anastomosis types. However, the S-S anastomosis significantly reduced the risk of surgical and endoscopic reintervention in the long term.

Summary: In cytoreductive surgery for ovarian cancer, a rectosigmoid resection with anastomosis is commonly performed. End-to-side anastomoses may have fewer complications compared to end-to-end approaches, but this has not been studied in ovarian cancer patients.

Summary: This study explores the use of sublingual sufentanil cartridges as a noninvasive alternative for postoperative pain management. By comparing pain assessment scores and the need for additional medication, it shows that sublingual sufentanil cartridges can effectively relieve pain and reduce reliance on medication.

Summary: This study aimed to perform antimesenteric tapering of the proximal loop using a linear stapler to reduce its diameter and facilitate anastomosis with the distal loop. The results showed that antimesenteric sleeve enteroplasty tapering reduced operative time, duration to reach full oral intake, and length of hospital stay.

Summary: This study demonstrated the feasibility and advantages of end-to-side anastomosis in airway reconstructions. The method allows tension-free anastomosis, which is crucial for surgical prognosis and decreasing complications. The reported cases had ideal surgical results. Further evaluation of the long-term outcomes of the end-to-side method is needed.

Summary: Early allograft dysfunction (EAD) following liver transplantation (LT) is a major threat to the survival of liver grafts and recipients. This study found that the expression of pMLKL significantly increased after hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) in both rat and human liver transplantations. The histological score of pMLKL is predictive of post-transplant EAD.

Summary: The use of extended criteria donor grafts is a promising strategy to increase organ transplantations. However, these organs are often compromised and susceptible to preservation injury and post-transplant complications. This review focuses on stem cell-based therapies during ex vivo organ perfusion for different organs, discussing strategies, efficacy, and the need for standardization.

Summary: This study investigated the success, complication, and mortality rates of initial biliary drainage in patients with unresectable perihilar cholangiocarcinoma. The study found that the success rate of initial biliary drainage was 45%, and the 90-day mortality rate was 36%. Future research should focus on improving biliary drainage in patients with perihilar cholangiocarcinoma.

Summary: Liver graft utilization rates and discard rates vary across countries, with machine perfusion strategies contributing to better DCD utilization rates. Risk factors and use of various machine perfusion techniques vary between countries, but this does not significantly impact 5-year graft survival rates. Overall, countries with routine use of machine perfusion strategies have higher DCD utilization rates without compromised outcomes.

Summary: This study successfully replicated ischemic cholangiopathy in vitro using human intrahepatic cholangiocyte organoids stressed by ischemia and subsequent re-oxygenation. The model exhibited similar changes in cell proliferation, epithelial-mesenchymal transition, and cell death processes as observed in patients. The research also identified alpha-1 antitrypsin as a potent inhibitor of ischemia-induced apoptosis and necroptosis.

Summary: With an increasing number of heart failure patients awaiting transplantation, the demand for viable organs exceeds the supply. The use of hearts from circulatory death donors has helped alleviate this shortage. Different techniques exist for heart procurement in circulatory death donors, but ethical concerns have been raised regarding the specific use of thoraco-abdominal normothermic regional perfusion. This paper discusses the current dilemmas surrounding these heart procurement protocols.

Summary: Organoid technology shows promise for regenerative medicine, particularly in the repair of bile duct tissue. However, the use of commercially available basement membrane extract (BME) as a culture substrate has limitations. Hydrogels prepared from decellularized native livers offer a clinically relevant alternative, with the ability to support the growth and expansion of cholangiocyte organoids while retaining tissue-specific aspects of the extracellular microenvironment.
