Summary: The study revealed that cognitive impairment has a negative impact on preventive health services utilization among older adults, with both individuals with cognitive impairment (without dementia) and those with dementia having lower odds of receiving preventive health care services. Targeted health promotion prevention and intervention strategies and caregiver education are needed to improve preventive services among older adults with cognitive impairment.

Summary: This review examines the potential of dual-task gait parameters as a predictive tool for cognitive impairment in older adults. Results suggest that certain parameters of dual-task gait, such as gait speed, speed cost, DT time, and word count during DT, show promising correlation with cognitive decline. These findings indicate the relevance of dual-task gait as a simple and effective screening tool for early detection of cognitive impairment in older individuals.

Summary: This study examined the feasibility, acceptability, and safety of a cognitive-enhancing Tai Ji Quan training intervention delivered remotely via videoconferencing for older adults with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). The results showed that the intervention was feasible, acceptable, and safe, with high retention rates and positive trends in cognitive outcomes. The findings suggest that remote Tai Ji Quan training could be a viable option for older adults with MCI.

Summary: This is the first study to show a significant correlation between 5-m gait speed test and MoCA score in frail diabetic and hypertensive older adults. These results highlight the association between cognitive and physical function, providing valuable information for improving the overall health status of these patients.

Summary: Early detection of cognitive impairment is crucial for treating older patients with hypertension, as it can impact treatment efficacy and functional prognosis. This study aimed to identify the incidence and determinants of cognitive impairment in hypertensive patients aged 65 years and above. Among the patients, 35% had cognitive impairment and 7.7% had dementia. Older age, lower education levels, and lower instrumental activities of daily living scores were associated with cognitive impairment. Treatment for hypertension did not differ between patients with and without cognitive impairment. Unrecognized cognitive impairment in hypertensive patients showed distinct clinical characteristics compared to other subtypes of mild cognitive impairment.

Summary: The systematic review provides evidence that several screening tests can adequately detect hearing loss in older adults. However, there is limited evidence on the benefits of screening and interventions for hearing loss, and no studies reported on the harms of screening or treatment.

Summary: The study found that there is inadequate documentation of cognitive impairment screening among hospitalized older patients, with a high percentage of undocumented cases. Healthcare providers acknowledged the benefits of screening but cited lack of time and knowledge as barriers. Future research should focus on identifying feasible strategies to increase implementation of cognitive impairment screening in hospitals.

Summary: Evidence suggests that screening for colorectal cancer starting at 50 years old can detect early-stage cancer and prevent CRC-related mortality. A prospective cohort study in the US found that screening endoscopy after 75 years old was associated with a lower risk of CRC incidence and CRC-related mortality, supporting the continuation of screening after 75 years old among individuals without significant comorbidities.

Summary: The study compared the clinical characteristics and health care utilization of PTSD patients diagnosed in primary care versus specialty mental health care. Patients diagnosed by specialty mental health care providers had higher rates and longer duration of psychotherapy, while prescription fill levels for psychotropics were generally higher for patients in specialty mental health care. Strategies are needed to better align patient needs with access and treatment modality in primary care settings.
