Summary: A study conducted in Ukraine in 2013/2014 and 2018/2019 found that weight issues were prevalent among children, with a decrease in overweight and obesity among 7-year-old girls but an increase in overweight and obese boys in other age groups in 2018/2019. However, the proportion of underweight children did not show a statistically significant difference across different age groups.

Summary: The study reveals that less than 2% of children in Ethiopia have the double burden of childhood malnutrition, where stunting and overweight or obesity coexist. This condition is influenced by individual factors such as breastfeeding status, maternal overweight, and household size, as well as community-level factors. The findings highlight the need for targeted interventions to address this issue and the importance of early identification of at-risk children.

Summary: The study aimed to assess the association between the use of antibiotics within 6 months after birth and body mass in preschool children. The findings indicated that antibiotic use was significantly associated with stunting, short stature, overweight, and obesity in preschool children.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence and sociodemographic determinants of thinness, overweight, and obesity among Chinese children and adolescents aged 7 to 18 years from 2010 to 2018. The findings showed that the prevalence of thinness decreased while overweight increased during this period. The prevalence of obesity declined in boys but increased in girls, particularly in adolescents aged 16-18 years. Factors such as age, mode of transportation to school, family size, and parental age were found to be associated with thinness, overweight, and obesity.

Summary: This study used a statistical method to extract useful information on child malnutrition trends from sparse data. The results showed a generally decreasing trend in stunting and a stable, slightly diminishing rate for overweight, with differences in trends between low- and middle-income countries compared to high-income countries.

Summary: Since 1985, the trend of emaciation in children and adolescents in Yunnan has decreased, while the prevalence of obesity and overweight has increased. The annual growth rate of overweight and obesity is higher in rural areas and among boys compared to urban areas and girls. Disparities in emaciation, overweight, and obesity among children in Yunnan are common, varying by area and gender.

Summary: Recent research on Chinese adults with normal BMI revealed a significant increase in abdominal obesity over a 23-year period, across genders, age groups, urban and rural regions, and educational backgrounds. Adding waist circumference as a measure of obesity prevalence is crucial for monitoring trends in obesity among this population.

Summary: A review of literature finds limited studies on dietary patterns of children in South Africa. This study aims to characterize the dietary patterns of children aged 1-<10 years and their associations with stunting and overweight/obesity. The results show that the dietary patterns of these children are far from ideal, with energy-dense, nutrient-poor patterns prevailing. There is no correlation between these patterns and stunting or overweight/obesity. Higher socio-economic status and maternal obesity are predictors of adherence to unhealthy dietary patterns. Intervention programs should target both low-income and high-income communities to improve children's dietary intake.

Summary: Between 1992 and 2017, stunting decreased and obesity increased among all social groups in Peru. Inequities in stunting by income and urban/rural residency widened over time, while inequities in obesity narrowed as obesity prevalence increased at a faster rate among certain disadvantaged groups.

Summary: The study revealed a significant increase in the prevalence of stunting among schoolboys in Kuwait over the past 13 years, while the prevalence in schoolgirls fluctuated. There was a tendency for the odds of combined overweight with stunting to increase in boys, but not in girls.

Summary: This study aimed to analyze the trend in malnutrition among children under 5 years of age in Iran over recent decades and estimate the malnutrition status for 2020. The results showed a decrease in the prevalence of malnutrition indicators, but food-insecure provinces still had high rates of stunting, underweight, and wasting. Considering the COVID-19 pandemic and its economic consequences, an increase in malnutrition is plausible.

Summary: Since the mid-1990s, overweight/obesity appears to have significantly contributed to the rising incidence of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) in the United States, while the contribution of non-smoking has declined. Public health interventions aimed at reducing overweight and obesity could play a crucial role in curbing this trend.
