Summary: This study examined a group of 98 adult patients with severe eosinophilic asthma and followed them for one year. The majority of patients were diagnosed with uncontrolled severe asthma at the initial visit, and a high percentage of patients were also found to have allergies. The study also found a significant correlation between sputum eosinophils and peripheral eosinophil count.

Summary: The study found a significant association between overweight/obesity and health-related physical fitness performance among older adults in Taiwan. Specifically, older adults with poor activity and physical fitness scores were more likely to be obese, indicating obesity as a critical indicator of health-related physical fitness performance. Future studies may benefit from using measures of muscle quality or body fat classification to predict obesity in older adults and better understand the relationship between obesity and physical fitness performance.

Summary: This study demonstrates how indoor air quality in areas using clean fuels affects the associations between long-term exposure to low-level air pollutants and cognition. The results show that an increase in PM2.5 is associated with a decline in cognitive abilities such as memory, attention, and executive function, while an increase in O-3 is associated with improved cognition. These associations are more significant in participants with poor ventilation or shorter daily indoor time. Additionally, the study found that the impact of O-3 on global cognition is more pronounced compared to the increase in different particulate matter exposures.

Summary: The study aimed to identify factors associated with hypertension control among older adults by analyzing socio-demographic and health characteristics. The results showed that factors such as age (65-74 years old), lower education level, obesity, and under-treatment of hypertension increased the likelihood of hypertension control in older men, while trying to maintain weight and under-treatment of hypertension increased the likelihood of hypertension control in older women. The study suggests the need for gender-specific guidelines and health-related behavioral modifications to improve hypertension control among older adults.

Summary: The UK Biobank is a large cohort study that provides an opportunity to study the association between environmental exposure and biomarkers, and identify potential tools for assessing health damage and disease risk. The study found associations between 30 biomarkers and environmental factors, and a correlation between asthma diagnosis and four pollutants. Additionally, the study showed that environmental exposure and genetic predisposition have an additive effect on biomarker levels and asthma diagnosis.

Summary: The exposure to PM2.5 particles varies between children and adults due to differences in height. Regardless of height, calm weather conditions and lack of precipitation contribute to increased PM2.5 exposure. Comparing different heights, children are exposed to PM2.5 concentrations that are more than 20% higher than adults on most days.

Summary: Previous studies have shown that the percent recovery index (PRI) could predict acute asthma exacerbations in childhood and elderly asthmatics. However, its predictive value in adults and for poor asthma control is still unclear. This study aimed to investigate whether PRI can predict poor asthma control and exacerbations in adults, as well as the impact of treatment on PRI.

Summary: The study surveyed professionals and parents to assess their knowledge and perceptions about education for self-management of asthma for children with physical and intellectual disabilities, as well as the need for education on asthma and coronavirus for children with IDs. Results showed that teachers had lower knowledge regarding educating children with IDs about asthma management and coronavirus, highlighting the importance of educating teachers on asthma triggers and involving children in self-care.

Summary: The One Health approach is a collaborative and interdisciplinary strategy that focuses on the interconnections between human, animal, and environmental health. It can advance the management of allergic diseases and asthma by addressing their complex and multifactorial nature. The impacts of allergens, infectious agents, and irritants on allergic diseases and asthma are influenced by environmental health intertwined with animal health. A coordinated response across sectors such as public health, veterinary medicine, and environmental science is needed, along with activities like monitoring and surveillance, targeted interventions, and research on underlying mechanisms.

Summary: Progestogen Hypersensitivity (PH) is characterized by recurrent cutaneous eruptions and systemic symptoms, caused by increased sensitivity to progestogens. The prevalence of PH is expected to increase due to the widespread use of oral contraceptives and hormonal treatments. A better understanding of the underlying mechanisms and the development of accurate diagnostic tests are needed for improved recognition and management of the condition.
