A significant focus in the nutrition era has been oriented to nutraceutical and functional foods. The health promoting potential of such provisions is ascribed to nutrition and these constituents have useful properties playing important role for egg producers. The biological and nutraceutical importance of egg is often due to the active compounds. It holds various bioactive compounds having significant nutraceutical properties like antioxidant, antiallergenic, antiartherogenic, antimicrobial and cardioprotective. Antioxidants are important against many disorders like hypercholesterolemia and cardiovascular diseases. The growing attention on natural antioxidants has promoted researches in investigating new antioxidant sources having profitable prospective. Confirmation for the effectiveness of the enrichment of eggs with bioactive compounds by inclusion of plant-derived materials in the diet of egg-producing poultry has been reviewed. This review study aims to discuss the antioxidant potential of natural substances used to enrich the eggs and highlight the importance of eggs as potential nutraceutical food. The evidence for health-promoting effects of enriched eggs has also been included.

Prevalence of babesiosis in bovines of India: a meta-analytical approach for 30 years (1990-2019)

Udipta Borthakur, Med Ram Verma, Yash Pal Singh, Sanjay Kumar, Dinesh Kumar, Yogesh Chandrakant Bangar, Khan Sharun, Kuldeep Dhama

Summary: A systematic review and meta-analysis of 47 studies on cattle, 48 studies on cows, and 13 studies on buffaloes in India between 1990 and 2019 showed that the prevalence of babesiosis in the country was 10.9%, 11.9%, and 6.0% respectively. Cattle were found to be at a higher risk than buffaloes, indicating the widespread presence of this haemoparasitic disease in India and its significant impact on bovines.

Yeast and derived products: their uses in preventing mycotoxins in poultry feeds

Rana Muhammad Bilal, Muhammad Ali Tahir, Asim Shahzad, Mayada R. Farag, Abdelmonem Siddiq, Nahed A. El-Shall, Kuldeep Dhama, Shaaban S. Elnesr, Mahmoud Alagawany

Summary: Poultry is an important source of human protein, but the feed used for poultry is often contaminated with mycotoxins, toxic secondary metabolites produced by fungi. This review focuses on the use of yeast and its derived products to overcome these mycotoxins in poultry diets. Yeast has been found to promote the growth of broilers, enhance immunity, improve gut immunity, and reduce the proportion of harmful microorganisms. Therefore, the inclusion of yeast as a feed additive is considered promising in mitigating the effects of mycotoxins in poultry.

Mycotoxins in milk: Occurrence and evaluation of certain detoxification attempts

Nesrine H. Youssef, Mohamed H. El Gammal, Hayman A. A. Altaie, Alaa Qadhi, Vincenzo Tufarelli, Caterina Losacco, Mohamed E. Abd El-Hack, Nader R. Abdelsalam

Summary: The study aimed to investigate mycotoxins in milk from women farmers' vendors and evaluate herbal plant fibers as green mycotoxin binders. The binding efficiency of mycotoxins using shaking or soaking processes with herbal extracts was explored. Results showed no fumonisins in cow milk samples but a 25% occurrence in buffalo's milk. A high occurrence of aflatoxin M1 was observed in both buffalo and cow milk. Soaking plant fibers in contaminated milk overnight significantly degraded and adsorbed mycotoxin particles. Shaking process with plant fibers was more effective in mycotoxin degradation than soaking or shaking alone, with shaking speed playing a crucial role.

Compositional constraints and selection forces dictate codon usage in human bocavirus

Rekha Khandia, Shailja Singhal, Utsang Kumar, Kishore Shende, Megha Katare Pandey, Sergey Nikolaevich Povetkin, Igor Vladimirovich Rzhepakovsky, Ashwin Raut, Athanosius Alexiou, Kuldeep Dhama, George Zouganelis, Azmat Ali Khan

Summary: The study revealed the predominance of selection forces over mutational forces in determining codon usage patterns in HBoV. Compositional parameters played a crucial role in the occurrence of dinucleotides and frequently used codons. Despite the A/T richness, G/C nucleotide content was found to be the highest in the non-neutral positions of the codon, indicating selective forces. A low codon bias was observed in HBoV, with nine A/T ending codons overrepresented and nineteen G/C ending codons underrepresented. The most overrepresented codon was AGA instead of the commonly observed CTG, encoding arginine.
