Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a major public health issue. In France, few studies have evaluated CKD prevalence. The objective of the MONA LISA study was to estimate and to characterize CKD in three representative cross-sectional surveys in subjects aged 35-74.9 years. CKD was defined as subjects having MDRD glomerular filtration rate lower than 60 mL/min/1.73 m(2). Prevalence of CKD in MONA LISA was standardized according to the French population. A multiple logistic regression analysis was performed in order to find independent factors associated to CKD. The French estimate of CKD prevalence was 8.2% (95% confidence interval: 7.4-8.9%), that is 2,454,548 (95% confidence interval: 2,215,080-2,664,082) subjects aged 35-74.9 years. Factors significantly and independently associated to CKD were older age, hypertension and dyslipidemias. In conclusion, the MONA LISA study evaluated for the first time in France CKD prevalence in subjects aged 35-74.9 years. This prevalence probably underestimates the real CKD size due to selection bias present in every representative cross-sectional survey. (C) 2012 Elsevier Masson SAS. All rights reserved.

Comparison of clinical profiles and care for patients with incident versus recurrent acute coronary syndromes in France: Data from the MONICA registries

Suzanne Machta, Victoria Gauthier, Jean Ferrieres, Michele Montaye, Samantha Huo Yung Kai, Stefy Gbokou, Katia Biasch, Marie Moitry, Philippe Amouyel, Jean Dallongeville, Aline Meirhaeghe

Summary: This study compared the clinical profiles, treatments, and case fatality rates between incident and recurrent acute coronary syndrome (ACS) cases. The results showed that recurrent ACS cases were more likely to have co-morbidities and suboptimal treatments prior to hospital stay. The study highlights the importance of secondary prevention for recurrent ACS patients.

One-Year Impact of COVID-19 Lockdown-Related Factors on Cardiovascular Risk and Mental Health: A Population-Based Cohort Study

Emilie Berard, Samantha Huo Yung Kai, Nicola Coley, Vanina Bongard, Jean Ferrieres

Summary: Lockdown measures have significant psychological impacts and may increase cardiovascular risk. People with depression symptoms during lockdown are more likely to experience increased cardiovascular drug treatment, decreased physical activity, and weight gain after lockdown. Changes in sleep patterns and living in rural areas during lockdown are associated with higher incidence of depression, while having a better relationship with one's partner during lockdown is associated with less incident depression. Continuing to work in roles requiring in-person contact with the public during lockdown is associated with more incident anxiety after lockdown, while decreased alcohol consumption during lockdown is associated with less incident anxiety.

Trends of in-hospital and out-of-hospital coronary heart disease mortality in French registries during the period 2000 to 2016

Stefy Gbokou, Katia Biasch, Jean Dallongeville, Samantha Huo Yung Kai, Michele Montaye, Philippe Amouyel, Aline Meirhaeghe, Jean Ferrieres, Marie Moitry

Summary: Between 2000 and 2016, both in-hospital and out-of-hospital mortality rates for acute coronary events (ACE) declined in France, with a greater decrease observed in out-of-hospital deaths. The contribution of out-of-hospital mortality to total ACE mortality increased over time, especially among elderly patients. These findings highlight the importance of reducing out-of-hospital mortality.

Deleterious synergistic effects of acute heart failure and diabetes mellitus in patients with acute coronary syndrome: Data from the FAST-MI Registries

Jean-Guillaume Dillinger, Guy Achkouty, Franck Albert, Gregoire Muller, Jean-Noel Labeque, Louis Moisson, Jean-Francois Morelle, Yves Cottin, Theo Pezel, Pascal Lim, Nadia Aissaoui, Francois Schiele, Jean Ferrieres, Denis Angoulvant, Patrick Henry, Etienne Puymirat, Tabassome Simon, Nicolas Danchin

Summary: This study assessed the correlates of acute heart failure (AHF) occurring at the early stage of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and the synergism between early AHF and diabetes mellitus (DM) on 5-year mortality. The results showed that early AHF was the most frequent complication of AMI and was twice as common in patients with DM compared to those without DM. After adjustment, early AHF and DM were associated with reduced 5-year survival, with a synergistic effect in patients with both conditions.

Sex differences in time trends in acute coronary syndrome management and in 12-month lethality: Data from the French MONICA registries

Victoria Gauthier, Michele Montaye, Jean Ferrieres, Samantha Huo Yung Kai, Katia Biasch, Marie Moitry, Philippe Amouyel, Jean Dallongeville, Aline Meirhaeghe

Summary: The study found that although differences in age and clinical presentation between male and female ACS patients were no longer significant in 2016, women were still less likely to receive revascularization and pharmacological treatments compared to men. Overall, there was an improvement in the management of ACS over time, but disparities in treatment between genders persisted in 2016.

Early Coronary Artery Calcification Progression over Two Years in Breast Cancer Patients Treated with Radiation Therapy: Association with Cardiac Exposure (BACCARAT Study)

Manoj Kumar Honaryar, Rodrigue Allodji, Jean Ferrieres, Loic Panh, Medea Locquet, Gaelle Jimenez, Matthieu Lapeyre, Jeremy Camilleri, David Broggio, Florent de Vathaire, Sophie Jacob

Summary: Radiotherapy for breast cancer can lead to radiation-induced coronary artery diseases many years later. An increase in coronary artery calcium (CAC) score is a good predictor of the risk of coronary disease. This study found that early CAC increase is associated with cardiac exposure, and minimizing cardiac exposure can limit the risk of coronary artery diseases.

Summary: This study investigates the predictive value of occupational constraints on all-cause mortality with a 20-year follow-up. The findings suggest that occupational exposures are associated with an increased risk of all-cause mortality, particularly for night-shift workers, highlighting the importance of implementing preventive strategies in the workplace.

Long-term follow-up of survivors of a first acute coronary syndrome: Results from the French MONICA registries from 2009 to 2017

Victoria Gauthier, Martin Lafrance, Mael Barthoulot, Louis Rousselet, Michele Montaye, Jean Ferrieres, Samantha Huo Yung Kai, Katia Biasch, Marie Moitry, Philippe Amouyel, Jean Dallongeville, Aline Meirhaeghe

Summary: The study aimed to characterize the long-term risk of first recurrence of ACS among survivors of an incident ACS, based on the STEMI/NSTEMI/UA diagnosis. The risk of recurrence did not depend on the type of the incident ACS, but major complications and impaired LVEF increased the risk. The most frequent forms of recurrence were NSTEMI and UA.
