Summary: The study aimed to detect polymorphisms in the THRSP gene and analyze their impact on fatty acid composition in milk of Jersey and Holstein-Friesian cattle. A significant association between the analyzed SNP and fatty acid content in milk was found, suggesting its potential as a marker for milk quality improvement. Variants of the THRSP gene may play a role in the de novo synthesis of fatty acids in lactating mammary glands, with differing activity levels.

Summary: The inactivation of the tesA gene in Pseudoalteromonas marina increased the c-di-GMP content, reduced fatty acid content, weakened motility, and enhanced biofilm formation, resulting in a significant decrease in mussel larval metamorphosis rate. Addition of extracted fatty acids from P. marina to the Delta tesA biofilms promoted biofilm-inducing capacity, indicating a regulation of bacterial biofilm composition by tesA gene.

Summary: This study revealed that the SL genotype of the 84 bp-indel in the SREBP1 gene is associated with higher content of polyunsaturated fatty acids in backfat, especially in the Pirenaica breed. However, the gene expression level of SREBP1 is not influenced by the genotypes of the 84 bp-indel.

Summary: This study investigated the association between variations in the SCD gene and fatty acid composition in Awassi sheep. The TA genotype was found to result in increased intramuscular fat and monounsaturated fatty acids compared to the TT genotype. Breeding for the TA genotype can be used to produce meat that is more favorable for human consumption.

Summary: While attempts were made to inhibit cancer cell growth by combining FASN and USP14 inhibitors, there were no synergistic effects on cancer cell death compared to FASN inhibitor alone. Surprisingly, the USP14 inhibitor IU1 did not significantly affect FASN levels in cancer cells, and metabolite changes in IU1-treated cells differed significantly from those in cells treated with the FASN inhibitor Fasnall.

Summary: The study identified a CHS homolog gene in Paeonia ostii, showing the highest expression in developing seeds. In vitro assays confirmed the enzymatic activity of PoCHS protein, with optimal pH and reaction temperature. Ectopic over-expression of PoCHS in Arabidopsis up-regulated genes related to seed development, glycolysis, and fatty acid biosynthesis, resulting in increased unsaturated fatty acid content in transgenic seeds.

Summary: This study explores the effects of pedigree information on imprinting variances in Japanese Black cattle for carcass traits and fatty acid composition. It was found that using the sire-maternal grandsire model can be useful for estimating imprinting variance under certain conditions, and that maternal gametic effects on beef marbling score should be considered in breeding programs for Japanese Black cattle to avoid selection bias caused by imprinting effects.

Summary: This study found that supplementation of stevioside and organic selenium in the diet of Hanwoo cattle can improve body weight, weight gain, carcass crude protein content, reduce drip loss and shear force, enhance redness in meat, and improve the polyunsaturated fatty acid content while delaying lipid oxidation during storage. Although there was a trend of decrease in microbial count, it was not significant, and all sensory attributes were enhanced with the supplementation.

Summary: FadR is a transcription factor in E. coli that regulates fatty acid metabolism in response to environmental fatty acids. It represses fatty acid degradation genes and activates fatty acid synthesis genes. Overproduction of FadR increases fatty acid yields but may have negative effects on cell physiology.

Summary: This study discovered antitumor oxazole-containing compounds and identified the enzyme pathways involved in their biosynthesis. The production of these compounds was found to be correlated with specific biosynthetic pathways and can be generated by a unique enzyme called Cong-TE. Biochemical analysis showed that Cong-TE has broad substrate compatibility. This work provides a prospect for environmentally friendly synthesis of valuable oxazole-containing esters.

Summary: Iterative type I polyketide synthases (iPKSs) are megaenzymes that synthesize complex natural products with diverse bioactivities. The programmed patterns of domain combinations during the synthetic cycle of iPKSs strongly influence the complexity of the resulting natural products. This article reviews the structural enzymology of iPKSs, focusing on individual domain structures and their representative programming activities.

Summary: This study evaluated the impact of different lipid sources on gene expression in porcine skeletal muscle tissue using RNA-Seq, and identified differentially expressed genes involved in metabolic pathways and biological processes. Addition of fish oil in pig diets resulted in intramuscular lipid with a higher composition of certain fatty acids. Blood parameters showed lower cholesterol and HDL content in the fish oil group compared to the other two groups. Enrichment analysis revealed differentially expressed genes related to lipid metabolism, metabolic diseases, and inflammation, as well as specific gene functions and altered blood parameters in each group.

Summary: A precise description of traits is crucial in genetics and genomics studies. Despite previous standardization efforts, capturing trait nomenclature granularity remains a challenge. However, by using trait modifiers and qualifiers to extend livestock trait ontologies, the management and curation of trait information have been streamlined.
