Summary: This study found a tendency towards larger alveolar volume in patients with unilateral cleft lip and palate following earlier timing of secondary alveolar bone grafting (SABG). However, further research on a larger group of patients is needed before any clinical indications can be formulated.

Summary: This case report presents a novel approach for dental implant rehabilitation in the posterior maxilla affected by craniofacial fibrous dysplasia. The use of particulate bone substitute and successful integration of implants after 6 months resulted in restored oral function.

Summary: This study examined periodontal health in patients with unilateral cleft lip and palate who underwent secondary alveolar bone grafting. The study found that the cleft side had higher levels of gingival inflammation, but fewer pathological gingival pockets were found. Shallow gingival recessions frequently occurred around the central incisor on the cleft side. Teeth in the bone-grafted cleft region generally had good bone support.

Summary: This retrospective cohort study examined the outcome of secondary alveolar bone grafting (SABG) in consecutive cleft patients, showing a high success rate with no significant impact from cleft type, pre-surgical orthodontics, or age at time of surgery. The findings support the favorable outcomes of a high-volume cleft surgeon and can be used for comparative audit with similar cleft care units.

Summary: This study elaborates on three methods for evaluating progressive bone mineral density (BMD) in patients with cleft lip and palate undergoing alveolar bone grafting (ABG). The research found a significant increase in BMD of grafted tissue during a 2-year postoperative follow-up. The volume of the grafted tissue remained stable between two time points, and there was no significant correlation between density enhancement rate and volume loss.

Summary: This study investigated the association between body mass index (BMI) and bone mineral density (BMD) progression in children with cleft alveolus who underwent secondary alveolar bone grafting (ABG) procedure. The results showed similar outcomes for patients with different BMI values in the 2-year postoperative follow-up.

Summary: This study investigated the status of the maxillary canine in patients with unilateral cleft lip and alveolus (UCLA) and unilateral cleft lip and palate (UCLP) before and after secondary alveolar bone grafting (SABG). The results showed that the absence of the maxillary lateral incisor increased the frequencies of mesial angulation and dilaceration of the maxillary canine. However, it did not affect the frequency of forced eruption.

Summary: The timing of secondary alveolar bone graft in children with cleft lip and palate depends on the eruption of the permanent maxillary canine. This study analyzed CBCT scans of over 900 patients to investigate dental developmental factors related to maxillary canine eruption. The results showed no significant differences in volume change or root length between erupting and non-erupting groups, except for the association between post-operative dental root length and maxillary canine eruption status. Therefore, pre-treatment CBCT scans for assessing root development were not deemed diagnostically important.

Summary: This retrospective study aimed to investigate the outcome of full-arch rehabilitations supported by implants in grafted bone. The results showed a dental implant cumulative success rate of 88.1% at 14 years and a patient survival rate of 76.8%. The incidence of biological and mechanical complications were 36% and 86.1% respectively. Overall, this treatment alternative is valid despite the rate of implant failures and complications.

Summary: The study found a significant positive association between bone grafting procedures and early implant failure, but data on the impact of other risk factors were insufficient for quantitative analysis.

Summary: This study summarized a new method for classifying alveolar cleft morphology and evaluated its correlation with the outcomes of secondary alveolar bone grafting (SABG). The results showed a significant correlation between morphology and SABG outcomes. The classification method is convenient for clinical application.

Summary: Patients with prolonged edentulism face challenges in replacing missing teeth. The use of non-resorbable and resorbable membranes in guided bone regeneration showed similar efficacy. However, further research is needed to draw conclusive results due to the low quality of evidence.

Summary: After 5 years of follow-up, there was no significant difference in marginal bone level changes, buccal bone thickness, clinical outcomes, esthetic ratings, and patient-reported satisfaction between immediate implant placement with bone defects >= 5 mm and delayed implant placement after ridge preservation in the esthetic zone.

Summary: Elevated levels of sclerostin in hemodialysis patients are associated with increased bone density, decreased PTH levels, and decreased levels of bone turnover markers. However, the effects of PTH on bone turnover markers appear to be primarily direct rather than mediated by sclerostin.
