Feasibility of continuous monitoring of vital signs in surgical patients on a general ward: an observational cohort study

Jobbe P. L. Leenen, Eline M. Dijkman, Joris D. van Dijk, Henderik L. van Westreenen, Cor Kalkman, Lisette Schoonhoven, Gijsbert A. Patijn

Summary: Continuous monitoring of vital signs with a wearable device was well accepted by patients, but nurses' ratings were highly variable, resulting in on average neutral attitude towards remote monitoring. Our results suggest it is feasible to monitor vital signs continuously on general wards, although acceptability of the device among nurses needs further improvement.

Association of Continuously Measured Vital Signs With Respiratory Insufficiency in Hospitalized COVID-19 Patients: Retrospective Cohort Study

Harriet M. R. van Goor, Lisette M. Vernooij, Martine J. M. Breteler, Cor J. Kalkman, Karin A. H. Kaasjager, Kim van Loon

Summary: This study aimed to explore methods to summarize continuously measured vital sign data and evaluate their association with respiratory insufficiency in COVID-19 patients at the general ward. The results showed that the mean of vital signs had a relatively strong association with respiratory insufficiency, and the strength of associations varied depending on the vital sign, timeframe, and lead.
