Summary: Identification of red lakes in painting layers by enhanced Raman spectroscopy is proposed in this study, utilizing the solubility and recrystallization of red lakes in hydrogel to isolate the lake from the painted matrix for identification purposes. This analytical method has been found effective in identifying cochineal and madder lakes, with results compared to experimental data and DFT calculations to define the organometallic complex present. The methodology is tested on aged mock-up panel paintings and historical paintings, supported by reflectance spectra and colorimetric measurements following micro-extraction.

Summary: The one-step dyeing and finishing of tussah fiber using plant extracts and acid dyes can simultaneously impart colorful shades, antioxidant activity, antibacterial activity, and UV protection capability. The stability of tannic acid, baicalin, and their mixtures with acid dyes was discussed, and the colors and functionalities of dyed and finished tussah silk were evaluated. The study shows that one-step dyeing and finishing with acid dyes and plant extracts are feasible for tussah silk, but caution is needed for pale dyeing.

Summary: In this study, a novel leaf coral-like structured composite membrane of copper aluminum layered double hydroxide (Cu-Al LDH) onto polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membrane surface was synthesized using a simple hydrothermal method. The as-prepared composite exhibited higher hydrophilicity and showed effective dye adsorption for Erythrosin B (EB) from aqueous solution. The adsorption kinetics and isotherms of the Cu-Al LDH/PVDF composite for EB were well described by pseudo-second-order and Langmuir models, respectively. The presence of coexisting salts reduced the removal efficiency of EB on the Cu-Al LDH/PVDF composite.

Summary: In this study, inorganic sodium nitrate salt was used as a tracer to identify possible leakage routes in Shahghasem dam. The results indicated that the main pathway of leakage flow was towards the right abutment, possibly due to dissolution and formation of limestone holes and karstification phenomenon. It was concluded that sodium nitrate as a tracer moved through the dam without being adsorbed by clay and silt materials, suggesting its effectiveness for future tracer works.

The physicochemical properties of the nanoparticles were characterized using various techniques. The design of the smartphone-based colorimetric fluvoxamine sensor relied on the hydrolysis of fluvoxamine under alkaline conditions, resulting in color variations in the solution. A linear relationship between the absorption signal and the fluvoxamine concentration was observed, allowing for simple quantification.
