Summary: This work describes the development of microwave-assisted digestion methods for the determination of Cu and Sn in antifouling paints by ICP OES. The optimal conditions were determined by optimizing factors such as sample mass and solutions of HNO3, HF, and HCl. The microwave digestion-assisted ICP-OES method showed better performance compared to dry ashing with a muffle furnace and laser ablation-ICP-MS.

Summary: A fast screening multi-element analysis method was developed to investigate the concentrations of potentially toxic and essential elements in natural toothbrush known as miswak. The study found significant differences in concentration of elements like As, Cd, Fe, Mg, Mn, Mo, Pb, and Se between thin and thick miswak, indicating accumulation of these elements as miswak grows. Peeling off the surface layer of miswak removed a significant portion of potentially toxic elements.

Summary: A two-point calibration method based on SDA was used to accurately analyze complex-matrix samples, requiring only two calibration solutions per sample. The method calculates analyte concentration by utilizing the slope and intercept of an analyte vs. IS plot, the analyte concentration in the standard added to S1, and the signal intensity of the IS in S1. This approach yielded similar or superior results compared to EC, IS, and SA methods, without the need for mixing solutions or additional equipment modifications.

Summary: To analyze trace evidence at crime scenes, non-destructive or low-sample analysis techniques are preferred. One such technique is solid sampling ETV-ICPOES, which requires only a small amount of sample. This article discusses the capabilities of ETV-ICPOES in forensic analysis and presents various methods for analyzing physical evidence. Internal standardization and multivariate analysis are used to compensate for sample loading effects and enable quantification and discrimination of evidence. The article also explores future perspectives for utilizing ETV-ICPOES in forensic settings.
