Summary: A dual-mode optical probe for the detection of organophosphorus pesticides triazophos (TRP) was developed based on the internal filter effect (IFE) between upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) and gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) in the presence of protamine (PRO) and trypsin (TRY). The probe demonstrated high sensitivity for TRP detection with good linear relationship and low detection limits. The recovery of TRP in real food samples also showed satisfactory results.

Summary: In this study, a benzopyran-benzothiazole derivative (probe DCA-Btl) was designed and synthesized to selectively recognize HSO3-/SO32- in food samples. The compound showed both colorimetric and fluorescence response, and had a large Stokes shift, good anti-interference ability, and low cytotoxicity. The results demonstrated that DCA-Btl could effectively detect HSO3-/SO32- in food samples and fluorescently image HSO3- in living cells.

Summary: A colorimetric method utilizing gold nanoparticles for visual detection of melamine in raw milk was developed, with a detection limit as low as 2.4 ppb. The color change from red to blue observed by the naked eye in the presence of trace amount of melamine was attributed to the interaction between the thymine fragment and melamine.

Summary: In this study, a condition-based single component sensor array was proposed for the quantification and classification of antidepressants. By tuning the pH and ionic strength, the array achieved excellent sensitivity and selectivity in detecting the target analytes. The results of multivariate calibration and classification in human urine demonstrated the practicality of the array in complex biological fluids.

Summary: A novel colorimetric method for detecting telomerase activity based on the cyclic strand displacement reaction is proposed, which shows good sensitivity and provides a new approach for early cancer diagnosis. The method evaluates telomerase activity by disrupting the protection of gold nanoparticles from salt-induced aggregation.

Summary: A simple aptasensor embedded in a micropipette tip is developed for label-free monitoring of acrylamide. The aptasensor utilizes the formation of a triple-helix molecular switch structure to induce the aggregation of gold nanoparticles. A smartphone imaging readout strategy enables the quantification of acrylamide based on the color change of the solution inside the micropipette tip. This aptasensor shows good selectivity and can successfully quantify acrylamide in various food samples.

Summary: This study demonstrates the use of different shaped silver nanostructures for sensitive detection of reactive oxygen species (ROS) using simple spectroscopic and colorimetric techniques. The silver nanocubes were particularly efficient in recognizing hypochlorite ions, with detection limits calculated as 36.37 nM. The study also reveals the mechanism of how ROS deteriorates the structural morphologies and optical properties of the nanostructures.

Summary: The illicit use of AAS as performance-enhancing drugs poses a threat to both competitive sports and public health. Current detection methods are limited to laboratory settings and cannot be performed on-site. However, the development of aptamer technology offers the potential for simple and cost-effective on-site analysis. In this study, a label-free colorimetric assay was developed using aptamers to detect the abuse of AAS.

Summary: We report the development of a sensitive colorimetric and Raman turn-off sensor based on gold nanoparticles for the detection of melamine in milk samples. The size and shape of the gold nanoparticles are controlled by the reducing and capping agent gallic acid. The detection limit of the sensor is found to be lower than the recommended limit, making it a potential tool for industrial use.
