Summary: Fluorescent probes with in-situ visual feature have gained attention for detecting doxycycline (DC), a widely used tetracycline antibiotic in animal husbandry. Bovine serum albumin-capped gold nanoclusters (BSA-AuNCs) were used as a ratiometric fluorescent probe to selectively detect DC among tetracycline antibiotics. BSA-AuNCs showed the highest response toward DC, with simple synthesis, short response time (1 min), and low detection limit. This work proposes an efficient strategy for designing fluorescent probes to selectively detect DC among tetracycline antibiotics.

Summary: A novel multifunctional fluorescent probe LL2 was synthesized by condensation reactions between 3-formyl-N-butylcarbazole and 2-Hydroxy-1-naphthylhydrazone. LL2 was able to detect Cu2+ through colorimetric and ratiometric fluorescence signals. It exhibited a rapid response within 5 seconds upon adding Cu2+ and achieved stability within 30 seconds. LL2 can capture fluorescence signals in living cells and detect Cu2+ in water samples, indicating its potential for monitoring Cu2+ in the environment and living cells.

Summary: A new water-soluble colorimetric and ratiometric fluorescent probe based on a phenothiazzine group was synthesized for detecting hypochlorite ion (ClO-). The probe LD-Lyso showed rapid, accurate, and selective fluorescence sensing effect with a large Stokes shift (195 nm), changing from red to green in response to ClO-. It also exhibited a significant shift in absorption band and visible color change, functioning as a colorimetric probe with a low detection limit.

Summary: A novel dual emissive fluorescent probe SFQ was designed and synthesized, which showed high selectivity and sensitivity towards ClO-. The probe exhibited noticeable color changes from orange to pink under natural light and from orange-red fluorescence to cyan fluorescence under a 365 nm UV lamp upon addition of ClO-. It also had a ratiometric fluorescence response to ClO- and a detection limit of 1.4 x 10-7 mol/L. The probe was successfully used to monitor ClO- in HepG2 cells and detect ClO- in actual environmental water samples.

Summary: In this study, probe L was tested as a colorimetric and ratiometric fluorescent probe for the detection of anions, cations, and neutral molecules. Probe L showed selectivity and sensitivity towards CN- ions and formed a new adduct through nucleophilic conjugate addition. This method demonstrated a low limit of detection and successful application in the detection of CN- in real-world water samples.

Summary: In this study, a simple fluorescent dye called BFCUR was developed for pH sensing. By deprotonating the phenolic hydroxyl groups, BFCUR exhibited significant red-shift and enhanced fluorescence emission, allowing for ratiometric pH detection and visual pH detection using test strips. BFCUR also showed low cytotoxicity and was successfully applied for intracellular pH detection. The findings highlight the great potential of CUR-derived BFCUR as colorimetric and fluorescent probes for ratiometric pH sensing and cell imaging.

Summary: Screening for GERD is challenging due to the non-specific symptoms, but salivary pepsin detection has become an effective non-invasive tool for diagnosis. However, there are still limitations in terms of reaction time, selectivity, and detection sensitivity. This study developed a BSA-SQ assembly with fluorescent on-off change for rapid and sensitive detection of pepsin, showing great potential for the diagnosis of GERD.
