The objective of this study was to compare MALDI-TOF MS and Rapid ID 32A with 16S rRNA gene sequencing, the reference method for identification of Bacteroides species. Results show that MALDI-TOF MS can be a good option for identification of Bacteroides species, especially if the database is expanded. (C) 2011 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
