Summary: Hiring appropriate editors, chairs, and committee members for academic journals and conferences is challenging. This paper proposes a relevance-based author ranking algorithm to measure the significance of authors to individual venues. The algorithm is able to identify both high profile scholars and those who are particularly significant for individual venues.

Summary: The study found that different multi-authorship indices have varying levels of correlation in ranking authors, with some showing strong correlation, weak correlation, and even negative correlation. In the top 10% rankings, the g(f)-index successfully brought in most of the award winners, but none of the indices were able to include all of the awardees in the list of top ranked authors.

Summary: This study describes the academic impact and author characteristics of open-access journals in otolaryngology. The findings indicate that articles published in open-access journals in this field have significantly fewer citations and lower academic impact compared to subscription-based journals.

Summary: Payment for ecosystem services (PES) has gained popularity as a potential solution to balance environmental degradation and economic development. However, key features such as price differentiation are often overlooked during design and implementation. This study examines China's grassland ecological compensation policy and suggests reforms to allow price differentiation, bottom-up participation, and performance-dependent payments.

Summary: Assessing the academic influence of researchers is a challenging task, and there is currently no universally accepted standard. This study computed 14 metrics to determine potential measures of influence and found high correlations among these metrics. Some metrics showed significant differences in rankings. Certain metrics were closely associated with award winners, and there was some relationship between specific societies and metrics.

Summary: International scientific societies nominate researchers for awards based on qualitative judgments using subjective assessments. There is a lack of established criteria for evaluating the quality of work, leading to complex issues in determining the best parameter for mapping experts' qualitative evaluation. Various quantitative parameters have been proposed, but their effectiveness in award nominations remains unclear.

Summary: This paper evaluates the carbon sequestration potential of shellfish farming and finds that it has the advantages of high energy efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Taking China as an example, shellfish farming has a higher carbon sequestration efficiency and intensity compared to artificial forests, and it also provides high-quality food.

Summary: The study suggests that glucocorticoids activate the MAPK/ERK pathway, leading to increased CD204 expression and uptake of acetylated low-density lipoprotein (Ac-LDL) in macrophages. Targeting the MAPK/ERK pathway in macrophages could be a key strategy to prevent glucocorticoid-induced exacerbation of atherosclerosis.

Summary: In this work, a new mechanism for the formation of fi-crystals in isotactic polypropylene (iPP) is demonstrated, providing a theoretical basis for the design of new and high-efficiency fi-nucleating agents (fi-NAs). The interfacial interaction between fi-NAs and iPP plays a crucial role in the formation of fi-crystals. The proposed method can predict and evaluate the fi-nucleation effect of NAs, serving as a theoretical guidance for the design of NAs that induce iPP with specific crystalline forms.

Summary: The risk of breast cancer is associated with genetic variants, which vary by gene, penetrance, and specific locus. BRCA1 and BRCA2 variants play important roles in breast and ovarian cancer, while other genes like ATM, CHEK2, PALB2, RAD51C, and RAD51D confer differential risks of breast and other specific cancers. Advancements in next-generation sequencing technologies have reduced costs and enabled simultaneous sequencing of multiple genes. However, further research is needed to understand the clinical implications of variants in moderate penetrance genes, and polygenic risk scores offer promise in risk stratification and management.

Summary: In this study, experiments were conducted to investigate the distribution of sulfur in the products during thermal degradation of vacuum residues under different operating conditions. Three vacuum residues with different sulfur contents were selected, and the effects of pressure and temperature on product yields and properties were studied. The results show that increasing temperature results in increased sulfur distribution in liquid fuel and reduced sulfur distribution in petroleum coke. In addition, the reaction temperature has an effect on the yields of light coker gasoil.

Summary: This paper presents a framework for evaluating the quality of enhancement of positive impacts in Environmental Impact Assessment reports. The framework includes four performance indicators: Inclusion, Timing, Thoroughness, and Responsibility & Monitoring. The study tested the framework on 24 Scottish EIARs and found that most reports scored low on the performance indicators.
