Summary: The study expanded the model to include normal platelet counts and found a positive linear correlation between platelet counts and platelet aggregation across normal and reduced platelet counts. This new expanded model serves as an optimized tool for evaluating platelet aggregation at both normal and reduced platelet counts.

Summary: This study evaluated the agreement of four different testing platforms used to monitor antiplatelet effects. The results showed that LTA and VerifyNow had the highest agreement for P2Y12-I response, followed by moderate agreement between LTA and WBA. In terms of ASA response, LTA and AspirinWorks showed moderate agreement, while WBA showed the weakest agreement with both LTA and AspirinWorks.

Summary: alpha-Synuclein plays a crucial role in Parkinson's disease but its physiological function remains unclear. This study found that exogenous alpha-Syn can inhibit platelet activation by preferentially inhibiting P-selectin expression on platelet surface. This provides insights into the antiplatelet function of alpha-Syn.

Summary: In this study, serum thromboxane B2 (sTXB2) measurement was suggested as an alternative method to identify aspirin-treated ischemic stroke patients at risk of enhanced platelet reactivity and subsequent vascular events. Results showed that sTXB2, with a cut-off level of >4.15 ng/mL, could distinguish patients with elevated platelet reactivity with a sensitivity of 84.3%, and was in fair agreement with the LTA-based classification of patients. On the other hand, soluble P-selectin levels showed no discriminatory ability in identifying at-risk patients.

Summary: The study demonstrates a dose-independent effect of aspirin on the platelet transcriptome, potentially acting as an inhibitor of protein synthesis, and correlated with platelet function levels.

Summary: This study evaluated the use of hirudin anticoagulated blood compared to citrate in rotational thromboelastometry (ROTEM) in thrombocytopenic patients. The results showed higher platelet aggregation with hirudin compared to citrate, particularly in patients with severe thrombocytopenia. Therefore, the use of hirudin anticoagulation is important for platelet function tests, especially in patients with severe thrombocytopenia.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of MICELI in platelet aggregation testing in whole blood and found that it had similar effects compared to LTA. Platelet aggregation in whole blood as recorded by EIA was found to be a better model system for evaluating platelet reactivity.

Summary: Xenotransplantation using genetically engineered pig organs has the potential to address organ shortage, but overcoming coagulation dysregulation remains a challenge. Various platelet aggregometry methods have been used to study this dysregulation, with impedance aggregometry providing additional information on platelet aggregation in xenotransplantation research.

Summary: Research on platelet function in surgical patients often involves taking samples from both arteries and veins. This study aimed to compare platelet function in arterial and venous blood samples using a novel flow cytometry protocol and impedance aggregometry. The results showed that for most parameters, the two methods produced similar results, but there were differences in certain conditions.

Summary: Knowledge of platelet function in pigs and the effectiveness of antiplatelet therapy is important for the transferability of animal studies to humans. This study characterized the baseline platelet function of Aachen minipigs, compared it with Gottingen minipigs, and evaluated platelet inhibition after intravenous administration of acetylsalicylic acid (ASA). The results showed differences in baseline platelet function between the two pig breeds and immediate platelet inhibition after ASA administration in Aachen minipigs.

Summary: The study found no significant differences in platelet aggregation between women with recurrent miscarriage and healthy women in the non-pregnant state. Acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) treatment reduced platelet aggregation during pregnancy, but the degree of inhibition decreased in the third trimester. Different responses to ASA were observed in pregnant women, but it did not impact the rate of subsequent miscarriage.

Summary: The study found that vaping leads to enhanced platelet reactivity compared to standard smoking and non-smoking. This suggests that the health effects of vaping may be more severe than previously assumed. Further large-scale clinical studies are needed to evaluate whether this effect translates to a higher incidence of major cardiovascular events.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the performance of different point-of-care devices and platelet aggregometry in predicting postoperative major bleeding in high-risk patients undergoing cardiac surgery. The results showed that QUANTRA PCS, ROTEM A10 PC, and Multiplate ADPtest significantly decreased after cardiopulmonary bypass, while ROTEM PC and Multiplate TRAPtest did not. Postoperative platelet function testing can moderately to well predict major bleeding.
