Summary: The foot and mouth disease (FMD) vaccination program in three provinces of Lao PDR from 2016 to 2020 had varying success in reducing the prevalence of FMD virus exposure and clinical incidence. The overall impact was marginal, with factors such as operational constraints of public veterinary services, lack of farmers' compliance, and unsustainable funding contributing to the limitations of the risk-based vaccination strategy. Consistent resource availability and higher vaccination coverage are needed to effectively control FMD in Lao PDR.

Summary: The increasing importance of land use in flood risk management policies has been driven by the growing flood damage. However, little attention has been paid to the resulting land use conflicts in flood-prone areas. This paper analyzes the current land use and its changes in Alpine flood-prone areas in Austria, revealing decreasing space for rivers and expanding settlements into flood-prone areas. The study also finds that valuable agricultural land located in flood hazard zones is more prevalent in mountainous areas. The limited space for permanent settlement in Alpine regions poses considerable restrictions on making space for rivers as part of flood risk management policies.

Summary: The complexity of managing floods in low-lying coastal plains and the combination of factors such as high tides and severe storm events make it challenging. This study evaluated the effectiveness of tidal control gates in reducing flood impact during high tides with severe storm events. The results showed that proper operation of the tidal control gate can effectively reduce the floodplain area, while improper operation may cause the tidal water to flow back into upstream areas, increasing the floodplain area.

Summary: Climate change has increased the occurrence of natural disasters, impacting food security in developing countries like Pakistan. This study focuses on the flood hazards vulnerability and risk of food security in the Bait community flood-prone areas of Punjab, Pakistan. Findings indicate that floods have a negative impact on food security, but factors such as financing schemes, physical assets, and family type have a positive influence. Integrated strategies, including constructing new water reserves and providing climate-friendly seed varieties, are suggested to effectively address the issue of food security in flood-prone areas.

Summary: The study analyzes the performance of the hydrodynamic model HEC-RAS in assessing flood-prone areas using different digital terrain models (DTM) and computing intervals. The model is found to be a powerful tool in identifying susceptible areas to urban flooding, providing crucial geographic information for prioritizing flood risk management. Simulations with a spatial resolution of 5 m derived from orthoimages showed the best performance in terms of coverage and computation times.

The study used both quantitative and qualitative approaches to analyze 402 responses. It found that female members of the community lag in terms of disaster resilience compared to their male counterparts. This highlights the importance of adopting a gender-based approach when assessing community disaster resilience and introducing resilience enhancement interventions.
