Summary: This paper analyzes the research advances in the anti-cancer and anti-viral effects of Coriolus versicolor (CV), a common species used in traditional Chinese herbal medicine. The direct effects of CV on cancer cells and angiogenesis are discussed based on in vitro and in vivo studies, as well as clinical research trials. The potential use of CV compounds in anti-viral treatment, including COVID-19 therapy, is also analyzed. Additionally, the significance of fever in viral infection and cancer is debated, with evidence suggesting that CV affects this phenomenon.

Summary: Infections caused by antimicrobial-resistant bacteria pose a growing threat to various medical procedures and conditions, such as surgeries, organ transplants, and cancer treatment. The development of new antimicrobials is limited, therefore, vaccines targeting antimicrobial-resistant Gram-negative bacteria may be a valuable alternative to reduce antimicrobial usage and prevent bacterial transmission.

Summary: The study found that there is an interaction between the polysaccharide peptide (PSP) extract and tamoxifen in terms of pharmacokinetics and biochemical parameters. The use of PSP delays the time to reach maximum concentration when used with tamoxifen. However, the co-administration of PSP with tamoxifen does not significantly affect the pharmacokinetics and biochemical parameters of tamoxifen.

Summary: The study investigated a new approach for quantifying endotoxin content using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) to estimate lipopolysaccharide (LPS) levels. Quantitative estimation of endotoxin was achieved by detecting 3-O-acetylated myristic acid, showing GC-MS results were in agreement with the traditional Limulus amebocyte lysate (LAL) test method.

Summary: This article reports a rare case of paraganglioma that only secretes interleukin-6 (IL-6). Through genomic sequencing, a mutation in the KIF1B gene was found in the patient. In terms of treatment, the patient's symptoms rapidly disappeared, body temperature and heart rate returned to normal after taking doxazosin, and blood indexes gradually improved.

Summary: A promoter-assisted glycosidation approach was reported for the stereoselective synthesis of 6-deoxy-beta-D-manno-heptopyranose oligosaccharides, with SphosAuNTf(2) promoting the glycosidation reactions to yield 6-deoxy-D-manno-heptosides with good to excellent beta-selectivities. The counterion and ligand of SPhosAuNTf(2) were found to have a significant effect on the formation of 1,2-cis-beta-linked 6-deoxy-D-manno-heptosides. This method was effectively applied to the stereocontrolled synthesis of 6-deoxy-beta-D-manno-heptopyranose oligosaccharides relevant to Burkholderia pseudomallei and Burkholderia mallei.

Summary: This study reports the administration of an anti-interleukin (IL)-6 antibody in a case of severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) with an increase in IL-6. The results show that the SFTS viral load decreased while IL-6 levels increased after tocilizumab treatment, and the patient fully recovered without any adverse events.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of extract from Coriolus versicolor on the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines in macrophages. The results showed that the extract can stimulate the secretion of IL-6 and TNF-α, and alter the expression of related signaling pathway components. The effects of the extract on cytokine production can be antagonistic or additive depending on the concentration of LPS.

Summary: This research focuses on studying the biological properties of composite materials made by dispersing titanium(IV)-oxo complex (TOC) with acetylsalicylate ligands in a poly(epsilon-caprolactone) (PCL) matrix. By gradually releasing biologically active compounds from the PCL matrix, such as antimicrobial agents, antibiotics, the composite materials have shown antimicrobial and antifungal activities against various strains of bacteria and yeast. The results have been correlated with electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy data, which showed the formation of paramagnetic species under visible light excitation.

Summary: This study investigates the use of an intermediate layer (IL) to successfully link hydroxyapatite (HA) coating to a titanium alloy substrate. The morphology, structure, and chemical composition of the system were characterized, and the ability of apatite formation on the surface was evaluated. In vitro experiments on cell viability, growth, and osteogenic properties were conducted. The nanoporous titanium dioxide (TiO2) intermediate layer showed promising results for bone tissue regeneration.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the influence of fever-range hyperthermia (FRH) on regulatory molecules such as cytokines and miRNAs involved in inflammatory processes. A fast rat model of infrared-induced FRH was developed, and the body temperature of animals was monitored. The study found that FRH affects the expression of molecules involved in inflammatory processes, leading to alleviated inflammation.

Summary: This publication presents the fabrication of porous iron-based materials using a cost-effective replica method on a polymeric template. The obtained materials with different pore sizes show potential for application in cardiac surgery implants. Corrosion rate and cytotoxic activity of the materials were evaluated. The study found that excessive porosity of the material may cause toxic effects on cell lines due to rapid corrosion.
