Summary: This study found that latent myofascial trigger points improved pain pressure threshold after calf MIT, but there was no change in ankle dorsiflexion with knee bent or knee flexed in healthy subjects.

Summary: This study reveals significant differences in central sensitization, psychosocial factors, and range of motion between individuals with chronic neck pain and healthy controls. It also shows a correlation between pain intensity, neck disability, and psychosocial factors in people with chronic neck pain.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the repeated application of PPT tests in different muscles. The results showed a significant increase in PPT in the elbow flexors and knee extensors, starting from the eighth and ninth assessments, respectively. However, there was no significant change in the ankle plantar flexor muscles. Based on these findings, it is recommended to perform between two and seven PPT assessments to avoid overestimation.

Summary: The study assessed pain pressure thresholds (PPTs) and subjective pain perception (SPP) of all 18 tender points (TPs) in female patients with fibromyalgia. Significant differences were found in PPTs and SPP scores between TP locations, with no differences between sides.

Summary: This study found a good convergent association between S-LANSS and PainDETECT in women with FMS. Additionally, S-LANSS was associated with PPTs whereas PainDETECT was associated with pain intensity and CSI, suggesting that both questionnaires assess different spectrums of the neuropathic and pain sensitization components of the condition and hence provide synergistic information.

Summary: This study found an association between pain sensitization and response to exercise therapy in knee osteoarthritis patients, providing clinically predictive values for pressure pain threshold (PPT) and temporal summation of pain (TSP) in predicting the outcome of exercise.

Summary: Previous studies have found that oxytocin can reduce first-hand pain sensitivity, but its effects on empathetic reactions to others' pain have been inconsistent. This study investigates the impact of oxytocin on empathy by modulating first-hand pain sensitivity. The results show that oxytocin can indirectly influence empathetic responses to pain by reducing first-hand pain sensitivity.

Summary: The study showed that BCRL reduces sensation in the affected limb, while CDP improves sensory perceptions in women with BCRL. Ultrasonographic measurements were also found to be useful for monitoring BCRL management.

Summary: The inter-session-repetition ICC, a novel metric of reliability in PPT measurement, provides a more conservative estimate than inter-session ICC. The difference in reliability estimates between the two metrics is clinically meaningful, with the ability to reflect individual testing protocols by quantifying sources of variability.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the effects of age, side, and other functional conditions on pressure pain threshold (PPT) and sensory abnormalities in elderly stroke survivors. The results showed that older patients had higher sensitivity in both sides and the affected side had more somatosensory abnormalities, particularly hypoalgesia. Elderly patients in good functional conditions seemed to have more equal pain sensitivity between both sides.

Summary: The study found that ischemic compression of FDI-MTrPs in patients with thumb CMC OA can help decrease local pain sensitivity, showing potential benefits in symptom improvement.

Summary: This study revealed significant gender differences in pressure pain threshold in post-stroke patients. Positive somatosensory signs for pressure stimuli, such as hypoalgesia and hyperalgesia, were frequently observed at the affected side but were not significantly influenced by gender. Patients with less pain, better motor functions, and ADL showed more equal PPTs between both sides, indicating bidirectional improvement caused by possible neural plasticity.

Summary: This study investigated the condition of the upper trapezius muscle in patients with unilateral, more severe neck pain and found significant differences in stiffness on the same side. However, no differences were found in elasticity, cervical spine mobility, and pressure pain threshold.

Summary: The study revealed a positive association between dispositional optimism and pressure pain tolerance and interval on both hands, while no correlation was found with pain threshold. Right-handed subjects displayed higher pain threshold, tolerance, and pain interval on their dominant hand.
