Summary: Patients with colorectal cancer ovarian metastasis have favorable long-term survival. Survival rates are higher if the tumor is isolated to the ovary or if metachronous to the primary cancer.

Summary: This study demonstrated that fecal calprotectin (FC) concentration can serve as a non-invasive biomarker to predict endoscopic and histologic remission in patients with immune-mediated diarrhea and colitis (IMDC). High FC concentrations were associated with endoscopic inflammation. FC concentrations decreased during the course of treatment in patients.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between diet quality and survival in patients with ovarian cancer using Chinese diet quality scores. The results showed that the Chinese Healthy Eating Index was associated with improved overall survival, while the Dietary Balance Index and Chinese Food Pagoda Score were not related to survival.

Summary: This study reported the clinical outcomes of salvage radiotherapy for recurrent ovarian cancer and identified predictors of the outcomes. Salvage radiotherapy achieved local control and improved chemotherapy-free survival in carefully selected patients. Pre-radiotherapy platinum resistance and pre-radiotherapy CA-125 doubling time may help with patient selection.

Summary: Exercise has been proven to improve physical and psychosocial well-being for cancer patients. The relationship between exercise and cancer outcomes is believed to be due to the release of anti-inflammatory myokines from skeletal muscle tissue. One important myokine, Interleukin-15 (IL-15), plays a key role in the immune response to cancer by supporting the growth and maturation of T cells and NK cells. Research is needed to better understand how exercise-induced increases in IL-15 can benefit cancer patients.

Summary: Frequent aspirin use is associated with reduced ovarian cancer risk, and genetic factors do not appear to modify this association according to a study. The findings suggest that aspirin use may be effective in preventing ovarian cancer regardless of genetic susceptibility.

Summary: Approximately 1% of the Ashkenazi Jewish population carries the BRCA2 6174delT pathogenic variant, which is associated with the risks of breast and ovarian cancer. Women carrying the 6174delT variant have a significantly lower annual risk for developing breast cancer compared to those carrying other variants in the BRCA2 gene, but the difference in ovarian or fallopian tube cancer risk is not significant.

Summary: Exposure to parental tobacco smoke in the home, rather than early initiation of smoking, was associated with a modest elevated risk of ovarian cancer. Further investigations are required to confirm these findings and elucidate underlying mechanisms.

Summary: Surgical resection is the main treatment for solid tumors, but cancer recurrence after surgery is common. Maintaining anti-tumor cell activity and proper levels of inflammatory mediators are crucial for preventing recurrence. Surgery itself and perioperative interventions can affect these physiological responses.

Summary: This study identified cancer-specific miRNAs in tissue-exudative extracellular vesicles (Te-EVs) of ovarian clear cell carcinomas (OCCs). The levels of these miRNAs were significantly decreased in postoperative serum samples, indicating their potential as biomarkers for the early diagnosis and detection of OCC.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate practice patterns for surveillance of primary ovarian cancer after complete response to therapy, and to identify the percentage of clinicians who follow the surveillance guidelines endorsed by the Society of Gynecologic Oncology. Results showed that 78% of patients complied with the guidelines, but patients with early-stage cancer and non-serous histologies were more likely to be non-compliant.

Summary: Myeloproliferative Neoplasm (MPN) is a type of chronic blood cancer derived from a mutated hematopoietic stem cell clone with activated myeloid cytokine receptor signaling. MPN shares similarities with chronic non-cancerous inflammatory conditions in terms of chronicity, symptoms, immune system involvement, environmental triggers, and treatments. Despite being classified as a cancer, MPN behaves more like a chronic inflammatory disease, suggesting it should be positioned in a fluid/spectrum between auto-inflammatory disease and cancer.

Summary: This study investigates prognostic factors for the severity of complications associated with ChAdOx1 vaccination. The levels of H3-NETs and calprotectin were significantly increased in VITT patients and correlated with the severity of vaccination side effects. These inflammatory markers may be used as confirmatory tests in diagnosing VITT.
