Summary: There is significant variability in the management of acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF) among physicians and between cardiologists and non-cardiologists. This includes differences in the use of diuretics, assessment of congestion, treatment goals, and response evaluation. Cardiologists tend to have different strategies and targets compared to non-cardiologists.

Summary: The study showed that SMZ can improve the cardiac function of rats with myocardial infarction by increasing the cardiac ejection fraction and retarding the thinning of the anterior wall of the left ventricle. In addition, SMZ mainly delays heart failure by inhibiting the progression of myocardial fibrosis through decreasing the levels of EGFR and MAPK1.

Summary: This study aimed to identify the accurate prevalence data for ambulatory advanced heart failure (HF) in European countries. The survey results showed that approximately 5% of the all-comer routine HF clinic population could be eligible for referral to an advanced HF center for assessment for advanced surgical therapies. The study also found that almost one-quarter of patients in this chronic outpatient population had NYHA III-IV symptoms. These findings are important for resource and service planning.

Summary: The burden of heart failure (HF) in China is expected to increase due to population ageing. However, there is limited knowledge about the prevalence of HF stages in China. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of HF stages in the general Chinese population and the specific prevalence by age, sex, and urbanity. The study found that both pre-clinical and clinical HF burdens are high in China and vary by age, sex, and urbanity.

Summary: This study found that the integration and perceptions of palliative care (PC) in heart failure (HF) care vary among clinicians. Despite recommendations for PC in HF patients, there is incomplete implementation of PC services. Further research and guidance are needed to improve PC delivery models in HF care.

Summary: The study identified 49 ICF categories necessary for care managers to develop care plans for older patients with heart failure, and found a significant difference in perception between medical and welfare/care professionals regarding these categories.

Summary: Among patients with acute myocardial infarction, the use of Sacubitril-Valsartan did not significantly reduce the incidence of death from cardiovascular causes or incident heart failure compared to ramipril.

Summary: This study evaluated the relationship among hyperuricemia, gout, heart failure (HF), and all-cause mortality. The results showed that patients with hyperuricemia or gout were more likely to have HF, and those with HF and hyperuricemia or gout were more likely to experience all-cause mortality in the long-term follow-up.

Summary: A cross-sectional survey was conducted to explore the knowledge variation of heart failure assessment and management among specialist and generalist nurses. Specialist nurses showed higher knowledge scores compared to generalist nurses, especially in areas such as diet, fluid, signs/symptoms, medication, and exercise. Both groups of nurses demonstrated less knowledge about dry weight, asymptomatic hypotension, and transient dizziness. Years of experience and race were significant factors associated with knowledge scores in generalist nurses, while confidence level and race were significant predictors for specialist nurses.

Summary: Despite advances in HF treatment, the risk of mortality and hospitalisation remains high for HF patients, affecting their quality of life and societal participation. This survey reveals significant gaps in public and policymaker knowledge about HF.

Summary: This study aimed to understand the perception of practicing cardiologists and heart failure (HF) specialists regarding the recommendation of initiating four major therapeutic classes simultaneously in patients with heart failure and reduced ejection fraction. The survey findings showed that most cardiologists still preferred the historical approach of sequential initiation, although accelerated introduction and titration were also considered important treatment goals.

Summary: This study investigates the association between red cell distribution width (RDW) and the RDW to platelet count ratio (RPR) with cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). The study also examines the population differences and dose-response relationships in this association. There are statistical heterogeneities in the association between RDW, RPR distributions, and the prevalence of CVDs across sex, smoking status, and age groups.

Summary: Atrial fibrillation is the most common arrhythmia in heart failure patients and can be both the cause and consequence of clinical heart failure. Some patients may benefit from maintaining sinus rhythm with catheter ablation. There is a close relationship between atrial fibrillation, left atrial myopathy, mitral regurgitation, and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction, with potential clinical benefits to catheter ablation therapy. Treatment of atrial fibrillation also requires consideration of the degree of atrial myopathy and chronicity of atrial fibrillation.
