Summary: This study aimed to establish the risk of suicide associated with incident psychotic depression (PD) compared to incident non-psychotic severe depression (NPD). The results showed that PD was associated with a twofold increased risk of suicide compared to NPD, with the highest relative risks for impact-related and suffocation-related suicides. This study revealed some characteristics of PD patients in terms of the severity of suicidal ideation and choice of self-harm methods.

Summary: This study aimed to identify predictors of manner of death in sharp force fatalities and described the characteristics of homicides and suicides due to sharp force injury. The findings showed that additional traumatic lesions and absence of lethal neck and upper limb wounds were independent autopsy predictors of a homicidal death, although no single feature is infallible in establishing the manner of death.

Summary: This study examined the relationships between family cohesion, mental health self-stigma, and suicidal ideation among people of color with psychotic spectrum disorders (PSDs). The findings showed that family cohesion was associated with decreased suicidal ideation, but this relationship was influenced by the level of self-stigma.

Summary: This study examines the association between suicidal ideation and psychotic experiences (PEs) during the COVID-19 pandemic. The results show that self-perceived stress plays an important role in this association. Detecting and managing stress in individuals with PEs may help prevent negative outcomes such as suicidal thoughts and behaviors.

Summary: This study found differences in rates of suicide attempts and completed suicide among individuals with schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, delusional disorder, and first-episode psychosis. The rates varied by diagnosis, clinical setting, and geographical region. Northern European countries reported higher rates of completed suicide in studies of schizophrenia and first-episode psychosis.

Summary: Women with bipolar disorder are at high risk of recurrence during pregnancy and the postpartum period, and experiencing mania/psychosis during pregnancy further increases the risk of postpartum mania/psychosis in this high-risk group. These findings may have important implications for predicting and managing severe postpartum recurrence of bipolar disorder.

Summary: This study retrospectively evaluated the adverse effects of perampanel in 895 Japanese epilepsy patients and found that younger age, intellectual disability, and psychiatric comorbidity were risk factors for psychiatric adverse effects. Caution should be taken in dose titration and therapeutic drug monitoring in patients with these conditions.

Summary: The study found that stronger working memory can reduce the likelihood of suicide ideation in FEP patients, while stronger clinical insight may increase the risk. The severity of depression and positive symptoms were closely associated with suicide ideation. The findings suggest the importance of balancing therapeutic efforts to strengthen clinical insight and cognition, alongside suicide risk assessment and prevention methods.

Summary: Rates of suicide are higher among individuals with schizophrenia spectrum disorders (SSDs) than the general population. This study aimed to explore depression, suicide intent, and suicide plan among adults with and without psychosis symptoms who attempted suicide. The findings showed that a smaller proportion of patients with psychosis had depressive symptoms, suicide intent, or a suicide plan prior to their attempt compared to patients without psychosis. These exploratory findings emphasize the need for assessing suicide risk beyond traditional approaches for patients with psychosis symptoms, considering the possibility of individuals not experiencing depression, suicide intent, or a suicide plan.

Summary: The study found that patients with first-episode psychosis were more likely to exhibit suicidal behavior compared to the healthy control group, with emotional abuse being the most relevant type of childhood trauma in suicide ideation and suicide risk. Additionally, perceived stress was found to play an important role in suicide ideations, suicide attempt, and suicide risk, even after controlling for other relevant variables.

Summary: Clinical data suggest that CBD is well tolerated and associated with few serious adverse events at therapeutic doses both in children and adults. However, interactions with other medications should be monitored carefully. Additional data are needed to investigate CBD's long-term efficacy and safety, and CBD use in medical conditions other than epilepsy syndromes.

Summary: This study analyzed a large population-based cohort to examine the medical and genetic risks associated with suicide in psychosis. It found that individuals with psychosis were more likely to die from atypical methods of suicide and that genetic risk for schizophrenia was associated with atypical suicide. These findings have important implications for the development of prevention strategies for suicide in individuals with psychosis.
