Vitis vinifera pollen dispersal was studied using volumetric air samplers situated within a vineyard to measure airborne pollen concentration. The pollen dispersal period of Cabernet Sauvignon was seven days, reaching daily mean concentrations of about 90 grains/m(3), with peak pollen dispersal near midday. Daily and hourly variations in concentration were positively correlated with temperature but negatively with relative humidity. Concentration was greatest within 1.5 m of the plants and up to 1 m aboveground, after which it diminished.
