Summary: The study aimed to develop a predictive index to estimate the individual risk of self-neglect among US Chinese older adults. Through longitudinal data from PINE, a 19-item predictive model was developed, demonstrating moderate predictive accuracy after validation. The study concluded that with further validation and modification, the index could be a culturally relevant tool for practitioners to quantify the risk of self-neglect in this population.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the prevalence of elder neglect and its associated factors among community-based Chinese older adults. Data from a nationwide cross-sectional study were analyzed, and six dimensions of neglect were identified. The analysis showed that different factors had different effects on these dimensions. Future studies are needed to explore the health impacts of these associated factors and develop prevention strategies to improve the quality of life for older adults in communities.

Summary: This study investigated the types and associated factors of elder abuse and neglect among older persons attending an outpatient clinic in Uganda. The prevalence of elder abuse was found to be 89.0%, with neglect being the most common type (86%). The findings highlight a significant issue of elder abuse in Uganda and emphasize the need for interventions to protect the rights of older adults.

Summary: Understanding how to improve the quality and lifespan of older adults experiencing self-neglect is challenging due to difficulties in identifying self-neglect in the community and dealing with cognitive, physical, and/or psychological issues that affect data collection. Conducting research under self-neglect conditions such as squalor and infestations poses challenges to study protocols and validity. This manuscript discusses these challenges and offers potential solutions based on the experiences of a research field-team involving over 300 adults experiencing self-neglect. Considerations for future self-neglect research are also presented.

Summary: This study suggests that psychotherapeutic education of family caregivers can have a positive long-term impact on treatment compliance and satisfaction in elderly neglected patients. It is recommended to identify elder abuse and neglect among geriatric patients and provide psychotherapeutic education for family caregivers as part of routine medical and dental long-term treatment procedures.

Summary: Through a questionnaire survey, it was found that frailty, social networks, and depression play important roles in self-neglect among the older Chinese population. Social isolation and depression were both associated with self-neglect in older adults, while frailty was not. To effectively control self-neglect, the management of depression and improvement of social networks among older adults should be incorporated into intervention strategies.

Summary: The study found that personal factors such as proactive personality traits, high self-efficacy, and advanced qualifications among geriatric nursing assistants can reduce the risk of elder neglect. On the other hand, organizational factors like low monthly salary, lack of regular training after induction, and fewer days off per month can increase the likelihood of elder neglect.

Summary: This paper investigated the mediational role of self-efficacy in the relationship between selected biopsychosocial factors and elder self-neglect (ESN) among community-living older adults in Selangor, Malaysia. The results suggest that self-efficacy partially mediated the association between functional and cognitive abilities, emotional well-being, and social relationships with ESN, while fully mediating the association between neuroticism, life satisfaction, social network, and education with ESN. These findings contribute to a better understanding of ESN among older Malaysian adults and can inform the development of interventions for handling cases of elder self-neglect in the community.

Summary: Recent research indicates that children who unintentionally ingest cannabis often undergo extensive additional testing, such as head imaging or lumbar puncture. However, the yield of these tests is limited. While head imaging and lumbar puncture are frequently performed, diagnoses such as skull fracture, intracranial hemorrhage, intracranial neoplasm, meningitis, or intracranial abscess are rare. Additionally, discharge diagnoses related to other drugs are infrequent. The most common co-diagnoses are cocaine and opioids. Therefore, prompt consideration of cannabis ingestion and quick identification through testing may result in more effective neuroimaging outcomes.
