Summary: This study aimed to investigate the collaboration between clinical laboratory, diagnostic management team (DMT), and physicians in improving test utilization and patient care. The results showed a 54% improvement in diagnostic errors through timely interventions and a 67% reduction in needed interventions after physician education. Only 28% of cases were associated with underutilization or failure to order required tests. The cost savings from preventing over and underutilization of laboratory tests were approximately $16,000.

Summary: This study aimed to characterize intraoperative delays during robotic-assisted thoracic surgery, investigate the awareness of delays among operating room staff, and assess the cost impact of delays. A total of 44 cases were observed, with 71 delays recorded. The study found that the operating room team had lower detection rates for delays compared to observers, and delays contributed to increased operative costs.

Summary: A large amount of poultry blood is generated annually and often wasted, causing environmental pollution and protein resource loss. However, poultry blood has excellent functional properties and is a rich source of essential amino acids, bioactive peptides, and functional components. This study provides a comprehensive summary of recent research progress in the composition, functional properties, and preparation methods of poultry blood-derived peptides, as well as their potential applications in the food industry.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the cost of testing within a Clinical Chemistry laboratory, finding that high-volume and automated tests have lower unit costs. By using activity-based costing (ABC), it is possible to identify high average cost tests that can benefit from optimizations, such as focusing on automation or outsourcing low-volume tests that can benefit from economies of scale.

Summary: This study investigated the practice of improper test utilization (ITU) among laboratory supervisors and physicians at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), Qatar. The results showed inadequate communication between the physicians and the laboratories, with physicians relying more on clinical guidelines rather than the laboratory handbook. Furthermore, the physicians had limited knowledge about the costs of the tests but showed willingness to reduce unnecessary testing. Improvement strategies should focus on enhancing communication between the physicians and laboratories and improving physician implementation of appropriate test ordering.

Summary: The recent regulations on circular economy have opened up new prospects for researchers. Unlike the unsustainable models of linear economy, the integration of circular economy concepts focuses on reducing, reusing, and recycling waste materials into high-end products. However, economic performance evaluation of adsorbents is rarely discussed in the literature, despite the numerous studies on their technical performance.

Summary: In recent years, a variety of free or economical clinical pathology technologies have been developed globally, such as 3D printing and Arduino approaches that significantly reduce costs. Point-of-care-tests (POCT) can also minimize the need for specific instruments or personnel, making clinical pathology more accessible. Additionally, the field of health informatics offers numerous free digital tools for use.

Summary: This research reveals the influence of soft cost elements (SCEs) on construction project costs, shedding light on previously understated factors that can significantly impact management decisions. Despite constituting a smaller percentage of project costs, SCEs have far-reaching implications and are crucial in driving critical management decisions. The study identifies 8 SCEs, categorized into Design Influence, Authority Requirement, and Development Provision, providing valuable insights for future research on project costs.

Summary: In this paper, a cost-efficient DC Active Load (AL) solution is proposed for load emulation in DC smart grids and other testing purposes. Hardware-wise, the stability of DC buses in smart grids and various DC/DC converter topologies need to be tested. Software-wise, smart grid strategies and job schedulers need to be tested with different power absorption profiles. Experimental results validate the feasibility of the proposed AL solution.

Summary: Sensitive and specific serologic assays for SARS-CoV-2 are crucial for diagnostic and public health decision-making. Two nucleocapsid antibody tests demonstrated higher sensitivity and specificity compared to a spike protein antibody test. Pairing two different serologic tests in a two-test algorithm improves positive predictive value with minimal impact on negative predictive value.
