Summary: Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) play roles in various pathological and physiological functions, with gelatinases as therapeutic targets against cancer. Although gelatinase inhibitors have shown effectiveness in several diseases, developing them as therapeutic agents is a challenging task. Various studies and patents have been ongoing to expand knowledge and develop better gelatinase inhibitors in recent years.

Summary: This study aims to explore the potential roles of apoptosis markers, proliferation markers, and neuroendocrine markers as indicators for the radioresistance of rectal cancer. The results showed that p53, Ki-67, and Chromogranin A have significant prognostic value for patients after radiotherapy. Additionally, Chromogranin A, as a marker of neuroendocrine differentiation, can predict a poor prognosis.

Summary: This study examined the impact of tumor budding on the prognosis of rectal cancer patients, finding that positive tumor budding is a predictive indicator of poor outcomes in rectal cancer patients, regardless of whether they received neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the association between total lymphocyte counts (TLCs) and disease-free survival (DFS) in locally advanced rectal cancer patients and identify factors associated with lymphopenia. The results showed that severe lymphopenia during chemoradiotherapy was significantly associated with poorer DFS. Pre-surgery TLCs and pre-radiotherapy TLCs were predictors of severe lymphopenia, and further study is needed to reduce the rate of severe lymphopenia.

Summary: Matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP9) plays a crucial role in the degradation of extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins. This study demonstrates that MMP9 can be activated by both chloramines and oxidation. The activation of MMP9 and ECM degradation are interdependent processes that may contribute to the progression of diseases.

Summary: MMP-9 is an enzyme that plays important physiological functions but is also involved in pathological processes like cancer invasion, metastasis, and angiogenesis. It may be related to the cytokine storm in COVID-19 and the molecular mechanisms of lung fibrosis. Understanding the interactions between MMP-9 and its natural inhibitor TIMP-1 is crucial for elucidating its regulatory processes.

Summary: The study revealed that MUC4 and MMP9 are significantly upregulated during glioma progression, with MUC4 co-expressed with MMP9 and EGFR in the proliferative microvasculature of glioblastoma. The high expression of MUC4/MMP9 and MUC4/MMP9/EGFR was associated with poor overall survival.

Summary: A novel in situ single molecule spectroscopy method based on fluorescent correlation spectroscopy (FCS) technique was proposed for measuring MMP-9 activity in single living cells. The method utilizes a fluorescent specific peptide and a reference dye as dual probes, and ratiometric translational diffusion time as the measurement parameter.

Summary: Accumulated studies have shown that tumor regression is related to prognosis in rectal cancer. The study aimed to evaluate the impact of pathologic response on the survival of stage II and III rectal cancer patients after neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy. It was found that pathologic response had a significant impact on the prognosis of stage III patients, especially in association with factors like early chemotherapy, surgical margin, and tumor differentiation.

Summary: Through comprehensive bioinformatics analysis, we investigated MMP9 expression in different cancers, correlations between MMP9 expression and cancer prognosis and gene mutations, and relationships between MMP9 expression and immune cell infiltration. The results showed that MMP9 was highly expressed in most malignant cancers and significantly associated with the clinical prognosis of patients with different types of cancer. Furthermore, MMP9 expression correlated significantly with infiltrating cells and the expression levels of immune checkpoint genes. This pan-cancer analysis provides comprehensive information on the potential value of MMP9 as a theranostic biomarker.

Summary: This retrospective study analyzed the incidence and predictive parameters of occult cervical lymph node metastasis in patients with cN0 laryngeal squamous cell cancer who underwent surgery as definitive treatment. The study found that the presence of lymph node metastasis is a poor prognostic factor and emphasized the importance of correctly determining neck status and providing appropriate treatment. The incidence of lymph node metastasis is very low in T1-T2 stages and well-differentiated tumors.

Summary: The study evaluated the oncological outcomes of 161 patients with early glottic LSCC treated with LTLM, revealing 5-year overall, disease-specific, disease-free, and laryngectomy-free survival rates of 84.5%, 97.9%, 79.2%, and 93.5% respectively. There was a significant relationship between histopathological grade and positive surgical margins, indicating a higher risk of positivity with worsening grade.
