Summary: This study examines the welfare effects of informative advertising in a monopolistic competition context. By introducing a continuum of firms, we find that informative advertising is socially insufficient and free entry results in a lower number of active firms compared to the socially optimal solution. Our results also highlight the impact of the number of sellers on equilibrium existence and conclusions, which differs from previous studies.

Summary: The study demonstrates that Protected Designations of Origin (PDO) varieties are perceived as higher quality and command higher prices compared to non-PDO varieties. While firms producing PDO varieties do not export higher volumes, they benefit from better access to European markets and countries with similar geographical indication policies. Inclusion of certain GI varieties in trade agreements could offer PDO producers the opportunity to expand their market access.

Summary: As interest in sustainable fashion and localism grows, this paper explores the potential of using geographical indications (GIs) to enhance trust in claims made by fashion businesses. Drawing on qualitative interviews with GI-protected winemakers in Apulia, the paper provides policy recommendations to expand GIs to the fashion industry, while considering the non-terroir nature of apparel and footwear items. The understanding of the economic, ecological, social, and governance implications of expanding GIs is vital to improve the sustainability impact of GIs systems.

Summary: Following the implementation of plain packaging in Singapore, tobacco companies have introduced new variants with flavor capsules, novelty filter features, and new flavors, as well as using more descriptive variant names reflecting color coding or market positioning. Some existing variants have been revamped with Japanese marketing themes to convey a more premium product image. After plain packaging, tobacco companies have utilized longer packs and variations in stick length, filter length, and foil texture to further differentiate products.

Summary: This study explores the tobacco industry's strategies for flavour capsule variants (FCVs), which are cigarettes with a crushable flavour capsule. The results show that tobacco companies have been developing FCVs since the 1960s, but only achieved market success in the 2000s with the launch of Camel Crush. They have patented various FCV features and developments, such as microcapsule surface coatings and adjustable or heat-triggered flavour release systems. However, their own tests indicate that FCVs have higher toxicant concentrations. Additionally, tobacco companies have developed loose flavour capsule units to customize cigarettes and bypass tobacco flavour bans.

Summary: The study reveals that the current graphic health warnings in the Philippines are not effectively promoting health consciousness. In contrast, plain packaging with larger graphic health warnings from Thailand and Singapore has a greater impact on discouraging smoking and motivating smokers to attempt quitting.

Summary: The estimated spending on online advertising will almost double and reach $520 billion in 2023 compared to 2019. Competitive advertising, especially research modeled as a bilinear differential game, plays a significant role in marketing due to the large expenditure and inefficiencies. However, there is currently no existing research that incorporates Markov jump process into the analysis, which is crucial for abrupt product-harm crisis or promotion interactions.

Summary: Despite Singapore's strict tobacco control policies, tobacco companies have continued to target consumers through marketing activities, especially by promoting 'lighter' cigarettes which appeal to health-conscious individuals, even though these cigarettes may not actually have lower tar and nicotine levels. It is essential for Singapore to strengthen legislation to prevent tobacco companies from making harm reduction claims on their products, and to enhance public health literacy to reduce smoking prevalence.

Summary: The study looks at how technological, geographical, and product market overlaps between a firm and its alliance partner impact the firm's invention performance. It finds that technological and geographical overlaps have a positive influence on invention performance, while product market overlap has a negative impact. Additionally, product market overlap weakens the positive effects of technological and geographical overlaps on invention performance.

Summary: The mutual recognition of geographical indications (GIs) between China and the European Union (EU) has effectively improved the quality of China's agricultural exports. This mechanism benefits countries with high GI endowment, quality frontier, and large and medium-sized enterprises, as well as labor-intensive products. Specialization agglomeration and cost-saving effects on the supply side, as well as domestic demand upgrading and product recognition effects on the demand side, contribute to the improvement of agricultural export quality.

Summary: This paper combines real-world decisions with experimental elicitations to estimate risk preferences by incorporating individuals' subjective beliefs. Biased subjective risk perceptions can lead to overestimation of rare events, challenging the standard assumptions of rational beliefs. Correcting biased beliefs appears to be an effective strategy to reduce government support and maintain high enrollment levels.
