Summary: In comparing robotic gastrectomy (RG) with conventional laparoscopic gastrectomy (LG), RG has shown advantages in terms of lower intraoperative blood loss, shorter hospital stay, and shorter learning curve, but it has disadvantages such as longer procedural time and higher costs. Although the morbidity rate and long-term outcomes are similar, RG has shown superior potentials.

Summary: This review analyzes the superiority of Ga-68-FAPI PET/CT over F-18-FDG PET/CT in the evaluation of gastric cancer (GC). The meta-analysis of 14 studies suggests that Ga-68-FAPI PET/CT shows higher sensitivity, specificity, and area under the curve (AUC) compared to F-18-FDG PET/CT. Ga-68-FAPI PET/CT has the potential to replace F-18-FDG PET/CT in the diagnosis, staging, and detection of recurrence/metastases of GC.

Summary: The systematic literature review found both positive and inverse associations between pesticide exposure and CRC risk, with no overall conclusion on whether there is a positive or inverse relationship. Certain pesticides were highlighted as of great or moderate concern for their elevated risk of CRC, particularly due to their legal or illegal usage in the US. This study’s results shed light on the health disparities related to CRC in rural communities with pesticide exposure.

Summary: This study conducted a systematic review of the serum vitamin D level in post-gastrectomy gastric cancer patients and found that the initial rate of vitamin D deficiency in these patients is similar to the global population deficiency. In post-gastrectomy survivors, the level of 25(OH)D may remain stable or decrease, while the level of 1, 25(OH)(2)D remains normal. Supplementation with vitamin D improves its serum concentration and positively affects bone mineral density.

Summary: Differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) is rare in childhood and adolescence but represents the most frequent endocrine malignancy in this population. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to estimate the overall incidence and prevalence of DTCs in patients aged 0-19 years. The study found that PTC is the most common histological type of DTC in children, and the implementation of a prospective international registry on pediatric DTC is proposed.

Summary: The prevalence of segmental colitis associated with diverticulosis (SCAD) remains debated in patients with colonic diverticulosis, with suspected SCAD patients showing significantly lower age. The diagnosis of SCAD poses a challenge in clinical practice due to the heterogeneity of endoscopic findings and lack of stated histological criteria.

Summary: Gender-sex differences in autoimmune atrophic gastritis (AAG) show that females are predominant in AAG cases, with higher rates of positivity for specific antibodies and genetic markers compared to males. Clinical profiles differ between male and female patients, with distinct associations to specific risk factors. Gender and sex stratification should be considered in future studies on AAG.

Summary: The aim of this study was to assess the frequency of autoimmune atrophic gastritis (AAG) and coeliac disease (CD) association and compare the clinical, biochemical, and histological features of adults affected by both diseases. The results showed that the association between AAG and CD is rare, with a prevalence of 2% in AAG patients with CD. Adults with both AAG and CD were younger and had a higher prevalence of normocytic anaemia compared to those with AAG only.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the differences in dietary habits between patients with diverticular disease (DD) and controls without diverticula. The results showed that patients with DD had lower daily calories and lipids intake compared to the controls. Protein consumption was lower in previous diverticulitis (PD) patients compared to those with asymptomatic diverticulosis (D). Fiber and dietary vitamins intake were also lower in DD patients compared to the controls. These findings suggest that DD patients have distinct dietary habits compared to the control subjects.

Summary: In adults, celiac disease (CD) diagnosis is based on specific serology and duodenal histology. This study aimed to compare the clinical, histological, and biochemical differences between adult CD patients with high tTG IgA titer (HT) and low titer (LT) at diagnosis and follow-up. HT patients had more severe histological damage and persistent antibodies positivity at follow-up compared to LT patients, although they recovered similarly after a Gluten-free diet.

Summary: This narrative review aimed to report the SCAD diagnostic criteria adopted in different studies, highlighting the current challenges and main pitfalls in its diagnosis. The analysis of fourteen studies showed that SCAD diagnosis is often based on not fully adequate macroscopic colonic description and scant biopsy protocol sampling. An accurate clinical and endoscopic evaluation, with an adequate sampling biopsy protocol, with attention to differential diagnosis, seemed to be crucial for a prompt SCAD diagnosis.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the role of [F-18]FDG PET/CT in low-grade gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasia. The retrospective study included 55 patients with grade 1 GEP-NETs. The results showed that approximately half of the patients had positive findings on [F-18]FDG PET/CT, which had a negative impact on clinical outcomes. These findings support the potential use of [F-18]FDG PET/CT in selected cases to detect patients at higher risk for an unfavorable disease course.
