Summary: Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are evolutionarily conserved pattern recognition receptors that play a crucial role in the innate immunity against microbial pathogens. This study investigated the expression profiles of TLRs in koalas infected with different subtypes of KoRV, revealing variations in TLR expression in koalas infected with exogenous subtypes compared to endogenous subtype, suggesting the importance of TLRs in KoRV infection and providing insights into the koala's immune response to the virus.

Summary: The study demonstrates the potential of PIV5-based HIV vaccines, showing that intranasal administration and boosting with VLPs can induce robust immune responses including antibody and T cell responses. Moreover, it suggests that the issue of pre-existing PIV5 immunity can be partially overcome by VLP boosting.

Summary: Chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a major global health problem, and the link between Toll-like receptors (TLRs) and chronic HBV infection is being increasingly recognized. TLR agonists have the potential to enhance the host immune response against HBV infection and improve CHB treatment.

Summary: The researchers designed a liposomal nanoparticle platform that delivers toll-like receptor 7 and toll-like receptor 3 agonists simultaneously to enhance the immunogenic condition of the tumor microenvironment in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). The treatment effectively inhibited tumor growth in mice and showed potential for combination therapy with immune checkpoint inhibitors.

Summary: The study found that the mRNA levels of ICAM-1 and TLR4 in PBMCs are significantly higher in older adults compared to younger adults. TLR4 is an independent factor affecting the expression of ICAM-1 in PBMCs. This suggests that ICAM-1 and TLR4 in PBMCs could be potential biomarkers for the ageing process.

Summary: Novel potent pyrimidine derivatives have been synthesized as core assembly modulators for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. These derivatives showed potent inhibitory effects in in vitro assays and significantly decreased serum HBV DNA levels in a human liver-chimeric uPA/SCID mouse model, particularly when combined with tenofovir.

Summary: Research suggests that HIV-infected individuals have elevated levels of inflammatory cytokines following exposure to LPS or ssPolyU. Estrogen exposure may enhance innate immune activation in HIV-infected individuals. Plasma markers show higher levels of immune activation in HIV-infected individuals, positively associated with in vitro responsiveness to estrogen and LPS.

Summary: A series of novel quinoline analogues targeting VP1 were identified as potent anti-EV-D68 agents through virtual screening and rational design. Compound 19 exhibited strong antiviral activity against various EV-D68 strains and inhibited viral replication. Mechanistic studies indicated that these anti-EV-D68 agents mainly work by interacting with VP1.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of organic UV filters on the immune system of loggerhead sea turtles. The results showed that organic UV filters can cause inflammatory responses and regulate them through the TLR/NF-κB signaling pathway. Additionally, high levels of organic UV filters can lead to lipid peroxidation in turtle cells. These findings provide a new understanding of the impact of sunscreen agents on sea turtle health.
