Summary: Devastating earthquakes in historical times have left the Cusco Basin vulnerable, with dense urbanization adding to the risk. However, the lack of data on past seismic activity makes it challenging to assess the earthquake hazards accurately. Through an archaeoseismological survey of Inca sites near Cusco, we have identified evidence of seismic deformation and confirmed the occurrence of significant ancient earthquakes. This study highlights the need for further research on faults near Cusco to better understand seismic risks.

Summary: This study emphasizes the importance of considering the cutting edge radius in microscale machining for understanding tool-workpiece contact relationships and cutting mechanisms. Experimental and finite element simulation results show that variations in the cutting edge radius affect chip thickness, cutting forces, and surface quality in both 1D and 2D VAM processes.

Summary: Masonry structures have been used since the existence of human beings and have served as inspiration for modern architecture. This study conducted historical and structural analyses of the minaret of the Ulu Mosque in Bitlis, Turkey, revealing its characteristics. The results of the structural analysis showed that the displacement, base shear force, and stress values of the minaret increased as the exceedance probability decreased.

Summary: This paper presents a methodology to assess the risk of surface recession damage to architectural buildings in Italy due to air pollution and meteorological factors. Three different risk models were identified using GIS technology and monument conservation data, providing a useful tool for policy makers to plan priority maintenance and conservation activities for cultural properties.

Summary: Earthquakes continue to pose a significant threat to cultural heritage, impacting economic and touristic incomes and regional identities. In emerging regions like the Andes, deficient seismic hazard assessments and lack of resources are additional challenges for cultural heritage management. This study in Peru developed a relational database to identify and record seismic damage in pre-Columbian architecture, aiming to support fieldwork organization and data acquisition.

Summary: This paper studies the dynamic response of an infinite periodic viaduct subjected to a moving mass and harmonic seismic waves using Fourier transform method and finite element method. The results show that for the simplified model used in this study, the in-plane transverse displacement of the viaduct beam is larger due to the joint action of the moving mass and seismic waves, while the out-of-plane vibration is usually smaller under the joint action compared to seismic waves alone.

Summary: This study investigates the response of a multi-level SMA/lead rubber bearing (ML-SLRB) isolation system that combines multiple groups of SMA cables and a lead rubber bearing (LRB). The study found that the SMA cable groups used in a loop configuration in the ML-SLRB isolator are prone to stress concentrations and early damage. However, the ML-SLRB isolators that employed its main SMA cable groups in a straight configuration successfully achieved a multi-level performance.

Summary: This study uses the finite element method to analyze the impact of seismic waves on venue earthquakes. The results show that an increase in slope degree leads to an increase in seismic amplification coefficient, with the X direction having a greater amplification coefficient than the Y direction. The Fourier spectrum decreases in the low-frequency band as the incident angle increases, while the rate of amplitude change is the highest in the high-frequency band.

Summary: The paper discusses a procedure for evaluating seismic risk on historic and/or cultural structures, utilizing additional economic parameters to consider the unique aspects of these buildings. The current approach, regulated by Italian codes and calibrated for residential buildings, is deemed inadequate for analyzing cultural buildings, highlighting the need for a specific and in-depth analysis.
