Summary: Highly transparent ZnO films were successfully deposited on glass substrates using the sol-gel technique. The quality of the films was influenced by the concentration of zinc in the precursor solution and the annealing temperature. The films showed good crystallinity and preferential orientation, and exhibited high transmittance of over 90%.

Summary: Xerogel thin films were prepared from titanium alkoxides complexed with methacrylic acid, and the impact of MAA:Ti ratio on film sensitivity and chemical resistance was studied. The results showed that films with low MAA:Ti ratio had lower sensitivity but could be tuned for chemical resistance.

Summary: The sol-gel method was used to fabricate Al-doped ZnO (AZO) thin films on p-Si substrates with smooth surfaces and highly oriented crystal structures. The analysis revealed that the AZO/Si heterojunctions exhibited nonideal diode behavior, with the 80 nm thick AZO layer demonstrating good rectifying properties.

Summary: This study presents an in-depth analysis of contamination and active site blockage in anatase thin films on SiO2-based glass substrates. High-resolution XPS and ICP-MS were used for characterization. The results show that ionic contaminants diffuse from the substrates into the grain boundaries of the thin films and can potentially block active sites. Long-term leaching in aqueous medium can completely remove the contaminants. The leaching kinetics are controlled by the solubilities of the contaminants rather than their ionic sizes or valences.

Summary: This review highlights the importance of Zn for the synthesis of multifunctional materials with interesting properties. Various strategies such as appropriate synthesis routes, doping and co-doping of ZnO films, and the addition of polymers are discussed. ZnO can be used in thin films, mixed layers, and composite films, and it can be doped with metals or non-metals. ZnO has multiple applications in sensing technology, piezoelectric devices, transparent conductive oxides, solar cells, and photoluminescence.

Summary: In this study, thin films of lanthanide oxysulfide were developed that are compatible with flexible substrates and retain the robustness advantages of inorganic compounds. The films, made using a low-temperature dip coating method, maintained the optical quality of the materials. The thickness of the films could be adjusted in a wide range, and thermal treatment was optimized to remove organic ligands while preserving the integrity of the nanoparticles.

Summary: Lu2Si2O7:Eu3+ thin films were prepared using sol-gel methods and dip coating, and exhibited a monoclinic structure with preferential orientation along a specific direction after heat treatment. The films showed strong emission from Eu3+ ions, with the optical yield and decay time increasing with the SiO2 content.

Summary: Undoped and Cu-doped ZnO thin films were prepared by spray pyrolysis technique and characterized. The study found that Cu doping led to a decrease in crystallite size, transmittance, and energy band gap values. FESEM analysis revealed a nanoflake morphology, with a decrease in structural sharpness as the Cu concentration increased. Gas sensing analysis showed that the 2% Cu-doped ZnO thin film had the highest ammonia sensing response and the shortest recovery time.

Summary: Amorphous Ce2Ti2O7 (CTO) thin films were prepared on an ITO/glass substrate using the sol-gel method, and the effects of various factors on the resistance-switching characteristics of the device were studied. It was observed that diffusion of Al and self-formed AlOx at the Al/CTO interface enhance the performance of the device. By inserting an AlOx layer at the CTO/ITO interface, the RS properties of the device can be optimized, making it a promising candidate for RRAM applications.

Summary: In this study, lead-free 0.8STO-0.2BFO thin films with coexisting amorphous and nanocrystalline structure were prepared by a sol-gel method. By adjusting the heat-treatment temperature to form polar-nano regions, the energy storage density of the films was increased. The optimized 0.8STO-0.2BFO film exhibited excellent energy storage properties with high discharge energy storage density, temperature and frequency stability, as well as fatigue endurance.

Summary: Thin films of cerium dioxide and cerium dioxide doped with vanadium pentoxide were prepared as smart materials using a sol-gel route and spin coating deposition. Weathering processes and temperature effects were studied, showing that doping reduced degradation, increased resistance of the film with temperature, and enhanced charge insertion capacity at higher temperatures.
