Summary: A sustainable electrochemical approach for site-selective C-H mono and bis-chalcogenation (sulfenylation or selenylation) of indolizine frameworks is described. Diversely functionalized disulfides and diselenides possessing EDGs and EWGs were successfully reacted with a variety of indolizines to directly access sulfenylated/selenylated indolizines in 40-96% yields. A mechanistic radical pathway was also validated with control experiments and cyclic voltammogram data.

Summary: A new reaction methodology has been developed for the thio(hetero)arylation of imidazoheterocycles under metal and base-free conditions. This reaction allows for the synthesis of compounds with significant biological properties, by linking imidazopyridines with electron-deficient heteroarenes through a sulfur atom. The reaction conditions are well tolerated by a wide range of 2-chloroheteroarenes and imidazoheterocycles.

Summary: A three-component method using an iodine-containing reagent has been developed for the selective synthesis of phenothiazines and bis-phenothiazines. Starting from easily available cyclohexanones, elemental sulfur, and inorganic ammonium salts, this protocol selectively produces the desired compounds under aerobic conditions with satisfactory yields. This method offers a practical approach for the preparation of phenothiazines and bis-phenothiazines, utilizing readily available starting materials and metal-free conditions.

Summary: This study proposed a novel chemoautotrophic elemental sulfur disproportionation (SD) process as an alternative to conventional biological sulfidogenic processes (BSPs) for the treatment of organic-deficit acid mine drainage (AMD). The SD process achieved a stable high-rate sulfide production without the need for exogenous organic substrates, and it effectively removed over 99% of the influent metals from AMD.

Summary: Thiols are known for their strong odor and high toxicity, making it highly desirable to develop thiol-free alternatives for constructing sulfur-containing derivatives, especially sulfides. In recent years, various approaches utilizing alternative sources have been described for the preparation of these compounds. This critical review provides an in-depth analysis of the preparation of these derivatives, including selected examples and mechanistic pathways.

Summary: A novel multicomponent cascade reaction has been reported for the synthesis of imidazo[2,1-a]isoquinoline derivatives in one-pot via the construction of two C-N bonds and one C-S/C-Se bond. The reaction achieves simultaneous C(sp3)-H amination and sulfenylation/selenation, avoiding complicated substrate preparation. It has simple operating conditions and good substrate compatibility.

Summary: A simple, practical, and environmentally friendly C(sp(3))-H thiocarbonylation method for benzylamine substrates has been developed without the need for a catalyst, enabling the facile synthesis of thioamides, with a diverse array of benzylamine derivatives being tolerated. The reaction mechanism involves specific solvents driving intermolecular hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) followed by single electron transfer (SET) to catalyze C-S bond formation and intramolecular HAT to establish the C=S bond.

Summary: Metal sulfides are promising sorbents for removing H-g(0) from flue gas, but they require regeneration. This study developed a CoS2 loaded porous carbon for H-g(0) capture and investigated the regeneration using elemental sulfur. Elemental sulfur effectively recovered the H-g(0) capture ability of the sorbent and showed similar regeneration stability compared to toxic H2S. The regenerated sorbent had higher S-2(2-) sites but less Co3+ and S-n(2-) (n >2) sites compared to the fresh sample.

Summary: Inverse vulcanised polymers have been studied due to their easy and cheap synthesis from elemental sulfur, resulting in a wide range of valuable properties. However, the high sulfur content makes the polymers difficult to analyze. This study presents the use of Raman spectroscopy to better understand the structure and properties of these polymers. It was found that Raman spectroscopy can provide key information about the elemental sulfur content, homogeneity, reactions, and proportions of different sulfur ranks in the polymer.

Summary: This study aims to develop guidelines for monomer selection in inverse vulcanization. Various olefin monomers were inverse-vulcanized and their side reactions were traced. The results identified terminal structures caused by chain transfer and byproducts that contribute to polymer coloration. Evaluation of thermal stability showed different behaviors for polymers obtained from different types of olefin monomers, providing guidance for monomer selection.
