Summary: The present study investigates the effect of carbon nanotube doping on nematic liquid crystals, revealing significant changes in optical and dielectric properties dependent on CNT concentration. Experimental measurements indicate enhanced photoluminescence, increased UV-absorbance, and improved dielectric permittivity with reduced dielectric loss in CNT doped systems. The influence of CNTs on molecular dynamics, conductivity, and relaxation frequency of NLC is also observed.

Summary: A simple and scalable liquid-phase method has been developed to achieve the structural coloration of carbon nanotube fibers (CNTFs). By using self-assembled photonic crystal layers formed by controllable-sized SiO2 nanospheres on the surface of CNTFs, brilliant colors can be exhibited. The colors of SiO2 nanoparticle-coated CNTFs can be easily changed by tuning the sizes of SiO2 nanospheres. This method provides a simple, effective, and promising way for large-scale production of colorful CNTFs.

Summary: We investigated the liquid crystal phase behaviors of sodium cholate-stabilized single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) aqueous dispersions with different SWCNT aspect ratios. The isotropic-to-nematic phase transition occurs at a lower concentration for the SWCNT dispersion with a larger aspect ratio, as expected by the Onsager theory. A well-aligned film was successfully fabricated from the dispersion with a higher SWCNT aspect ratio using simple blade coating. We also prepared SWCNT dispersions with different surfactants, sodium deoxycholate, and sodium taurodeoxycholate, to change the surface condition of SWCNTs, which may affect the LC transition concentrations.

Summary: This study demonstrates a near-full-color tunable chiroptical electrothermochromic device using a supramolecular chiral photonic material FLC-CLC, which can be electrically tuned over the entire visible region with high color performance at near room temperature. The study also shows two potential low-voltage tunable applications, a broadband tunable laser and a near-full-color tunable coaxial microfibric textile, based on electrothermochromic FLC-CLC materials.

Summary: Structural color can be produced by nanoperiodic dielectric structures using soft materials, and stretchable chiral photonic elastomers (CPEs) can self-organize into a helical nanostructure, with the chiral nanostructural color controlled by stretching. This study presents stretchable CPEs with simultaneous multicolor control, including electrical control, and demonstrates various device applications such as multiarrayed color binning and chameleon-like photonic e-skin. The ability to control the separation of biomimetic multicolors in stretchable photonic systems improves the functionality of potential photonic applications.

Summary: This study presents a strategy to overcome the challenges of liquid crystal materials in the THz regime by using a super-aligned carbon nanotube film as both transparent electrodes and the aligning layer. The LC molecules are uniformly aligned along the orientation direction of the CNT film, enabling active THz polarization conversions.

Summary: The addition of MWCNT led to a decrease in crystallite size and an increase in surface area, as well as a decrease in optical bandgap energy of CaCu3Ti4O12, making it a promising photocatalyst for environmental applications. Coupling CaCu3Ti4O12 with 0.3 wt% of MWCNT resulted in the highest photodegradation efficiencies under UV and visible light illumination. The kinetic data fitted a pseudo-first-order model showing the potential for enhancing the photocatalytic performance of CaCu3Ti4O12 using MWCNT.

Summary: ZnO/Cu2S nanotube arrays were fabricated using a simple method without capping agents, and their photo-electrochemical performance was systematically studied. The enhanced performance of ZnO/Cu2S was attributed to improved visible light absorption, effective separation of photo-induced carriers, and the formation of a p-n junction between ZnO and Cu2S. The performance of ZnO/Cu2S nanotube arrays could be adjusted by changing the amount of Cu2S microcrystals.

Summary: Researchers have developed a reliable process to fabricate multielectrode circuits that can withstand harsh conditions of nanotube growth. High-quality charge stability diagrams of double and triple quantum dots have been measured, and long-range tunneling of electrons between the quantum dots has been observed. This work paves the way for the realization of a new generation of condensed-matter devices in an ultraclean environment.

Summary: The study introduces a strategy for fabricating magnetic photonic crystal microspheres, which can be applied in biomedical, micro/nano motors, and sensors. By combining a strongly magnetic microinner core with an inorganic PC shell, the assembly and motion of MPCMs are achieved, leading to the construction of a multifunctional microsensor with quadruple sensing capabilities.

Summary: The unique combination of photonic helicoidal structure and rubber-like properties in cholesteric liquid-crystal elastomers results in a highly stretchable mechanochromic film capable of reflecting both right- and left-handed circular polarized light. The patterned photonic CLCE film, controlled by applied strain, can encrypt data and camouflage itself under unpolarized daylight. These elastomers have potential applications in sensors, robotics, displays, encryption, and anti-counterfeiting due to their mechanochromic capabilities.

Summary: Limited research has shown that socio-economic status and living location can impact the time to care home admission in dementia patients. Factors such as increasing age, living alone, frailty, and residing in less disadvantaged neighborhoods were associated with faster admission rates, while living in rural regions predicted a slower rate of admission.
