Summary: Drought has negative effects on the physiological and biochemical characteristics of crops. This study aimed to investigate the effects of biostimulants containing PGPR on tomato seedlings under different irrigation levels. The results showed that biostimulant applications mitigated the adverse effects of drought stress and improved plant growth parameters. The most effective dose was 4 L ha(-1) under drought conditions.

Summary: The application of 24-epibrassinolide (EBR) can alleviate the damage caused by lead (Pb) stress in tomato plants. EBR enhances root and leaf structures, improves the functioning of photosynthetic apparatus, and increases biomass accumulation. Moreover, EBR increases antioxidant enzyme activity, improves photosynthetic pigments and electron transport rate, and enhances photosynthesis. These findings are important for understanding and improving the response of plants to pollutant stress.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the combined ecotoxicological effects of Cd, Pb, Zn, Hg and regulation mechanisms in Solanum nigrum L. The co-exposure of these heavy metals hindered the transformation of Cd, Zn, and Hg into non-available forms. Each metal individually induced oxidative damage to S. nigrum L., but their combination further enhanced ecological toxicity. Internal regulation, such as hyperaccumulation of Cd in plant roots and immobilization in the cell wall and vacuole, and external regulation involving changes in soil microbial communities, played important roles in detoxification pathways.

Summary: Tryptamine and serotonin are important substances with diverse biological functions in various kingdoms of life. In tomato, the serotonin pathway plays a crucial role in multiple biological processes, with SlTDC genes being responsible for tryptamine accumulation in fruits, SlTDC2 gene causing serotonin accumulation in aerial vegetative organs, and SlTDC3 working with SlT5H to convert tryptamine into serotonin in the roots and fruits.

Summary: Chlorophyll catabolism is the primary source of phytyl diphosphate for tocopherol synthesis. The enzymes VTE5 and VTE6 are crucial for recycling chlorophyll-derived phytol and they are complexed, mitigating their cytotoxic nature. Tocopherol accumulation also occurs in chlorophyll-devoid organs, showing the importance of phytol recycling for tocopherol biosynthesis.

Summary: The SIMYB75 gene plays a crucial role in tomato trichomes, with down-regulation increasing trichome formation and tolerance to spider mites, while overexpression inhibits these processes. The perturbation of SIMYB75 affects multiple transcriptional circuits, resulting in changes in trichome density and metabolic content.

Summary: This study found that the thermotolerant bacterium, Bacillus safensis, can promote the growth of tomato plants under heat stress conditions. The bacterium produces plant growth regulators and enhances antioxidant enzyme activities, leading to improved plant growth parameters and chlorophyll content. These findings suggest that inoculating tomato plants with heat-tolerant endophytic bacteria could be an environmentally friendly strategy to mitigate heat stress.

Summary: The expanding global population and decreasing arable land are major concerns for the planet. One major cause of declining arable land is increased soil salinity, which is unfavorable for crop cultivation. Utilization of saline land for agriculture is possible with the invention of biofertilizers, such as those made from Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria.

Summary: This study analyzed the geographic distribution, ecological descriptors, diversity, and adaptation patterns of 1296 accessions of native tomato from Mexico using Geographic Information Systems and multivariate techniques. The results showed that temperature and precipitation were the most relevant factors influencing tomato distribution, with temperate climates being the main areas of tomato presence.

Summary: This study examined the elicitor properties of a by-product of agar extraction from the red alga Gelidium sesquipedale. The results showed that this by-product can enhance plant defense markers and increase the expression of pathogenesis-related genes, improving plant resistance against diseases. Field trials also demonstrated its efficacy in reducing disease symptoms in grapevines.
