The findings of preserved soft body parts including pedicle in the linguloid brachiopods are extremely rare in the fossil record of which the early Cambrian Chengjiang (southern China) and Burgess Shale (British Columbia) faunas are the most important. However, these characteristic Cambrian soft-bodied faunas largely disappeared from the fossil record well before the end of the Cambrian. Here we describe the first record of the pedicle in a linguloid brachiopod from the post-Cambrian strata, preserved with remarkable fidelity. Contrary to the Chengjiang and Burgess Shale-type faunas which are commonly preserved as essentially two-dimensional aluminosilicate or degraded organic carbon films or pyritized compressed fossils, the specimens now recovered from the Ordovician of China show a three-dimensional, pyritized pedicle with preserved external morphology, in detail. The presence of streamlined shell shape and burrowing shell sculpture in our specimens supports an assumption for infaunal mode of life of the genus. Since all linguloid brachiopods of the early Cambrian are interpreted as epifaunal or semi-infaunal, it seems that the here described Ordovician linguloid is the oldest representative of fully infaunal brachiopods. Apparently, the long vermiform and flexible linguloid pedicle has appeared as a functionally optimized construction.

Summary: This study investigated the current clinical scenarios of painful diabetic peripheral neuropathy and associated anxiety and depression among patients in Mainland China. The majority of participants experienced moderate to severe neuropathic pain. Age, diabetic duration, depression history, PHQ-9 and GAD-7 scores, and FBG were identified as risk factors for VAS pain scores, while PAD was found to be a protective factor. Most prescribed pain relief therapies were in line with guidelines.

Sulfur and oxygen isotopic compositions of carbonate associated sulfate (CAS) of Cambrian ribbon rocks: Implications for the constraints on using CAS to reconstruct seawater sulfate sulfur isotopic compositions

Haoran Ma, Lin Dong, Bing Shen, Ximeng Qiu, Yongbo Peng, Kai Xiang, Meng Ning, Yuanlin Sun

Summary: Carbonate associated sulfate (CAS) is widely used to study the ancient seawater sulfur isotopic composition, but the variations in δS-34(CAS) values suggest different processes in marlstone and limestone layers. The lower δS-34(CAS) in marlstone may be influenced by benthic flux, while the higher values in limestone could be due to diagenetic processes. The study concludes that δS-34(CAS) may accurately reflect seawater sulfur isotopic composition when benthic flux and early diagenesis are not significant.

The enzymatic browning reaction inhibition effect of strong acidic electrolyzed water on different parts of sweet potato slices

Rui Liu, Zhang-Long Yu, Yuan-Lin Sun, Su-Mei Zhou

Summary: The study demonstrated that acidic electrolyzed water treatment effectively inhibits the enzymatic browning reaction of sweet potato slices, reducing the browning degree and phenolic acid content. Additionally, electrolyzed water treatment significantly suppresses the activities of polyphenol oxidase and peroxidase.

Multi-Omics Prognostic Signatures Based on Lipid Metabolism for Colorectal Cancer

YuanLin Sun, Bin Liu, YuJia Chen, YanPeng Xing, Yang Zhang

Summary: This study investigated the role of lipid metabolism in the prognosis of colorectal cancer (CRC) using metabonomics and transcriptomics. The study developed prognostic signatures and a composite nomogram to predict the outcome of CRC patients. The study also explored the potential relationship between tumor microenvironment and immune infiltration.

DEK modulates both expression and alternative splicing of cancer-related genes

Bin Liu, Yuanlin Sun, Yang Zhang, Yanpeng Xing, Jian Suo

Summary: DEK is a potential proto-oncogene highly expressed in gastric cancer (GC). This study analyzed the global transcription and alternative splicing profiles regulated by DEK in a human GC cell line. It revealed that DEK regulates the expression and alternative splicing of multiple cancer-related genes, indicating its role as a possible oncogene. These findings expand the importance and feasibility of DEK as a clinical therapeutic target for human malignancies including GC.

Qigao Jiangzuo, Lars Werdelin, Yuanlin Sun

Summary: This study describes a new dwarfed ecomorph of the Machairodontini tribe from the Early Pleistocene of northern China and provides the most comprehensive phylogenetic analysis of the subfamily to date. The findings shed light on the evolution and diversification of the tribe and offer insights into the evolutionary patterns of Machairodontini in different geographical regions.

Haydenella kiangsiensis Wuchiapingian (Lopingian, late Permian) brachiopod fauna from Guangdong Province, southeastern China: systematics and contribution to the Lopingian recovery

Huiting Wu, Yang Zhang, Thomas L. Stubbs, Anfeng Chen, Pengcheng Zhai, Yuanlin Sun

Summary: A diverse Wuchiapingian brachiopod fauna with 57 species in 28 genera was discovered in the Shuizhutang Formation in Liannan, Guangdong province, southeastern China. Four new species were proposed, and the study provided revised characteristics of shell microstructures in Permianella and muscle scars in Permophricodothyris. The Liannan fauna exhibited higher alpha diversity compared to other Wuchiapingian brachiopod faunas in South China and shared more similarities with faunas from southeastern China. The dominant genera in the Liannan fauna were larger and more ornate than their Changhsingian counterparts. The study also highlighted the significance of genus-level recovery and subsequent rapid radiation at both genus and species levels.

PTEN Expression Was Significantly Associated with PD-L1 Score but Not with EBV Infection in Gastric Cancer

Donghui Cao, Tongrong Su, Yanhua Wu, Zhifang Jia, Yingli Fu, Yuanlin Sun, Meishan Jin, Yueqi Wang, Jiaxin Yi, Yingnan Cui, Yuzheng Zhang, Haiyong Lv, Limei Qu, Jing Jiang, Xueyuan Cao

Summary: This study found that PTEN expression was downregulated in gastric tumors and was associated with clinical characteristics such as histological grade and invasion depth. High PTEN expression was positively correlated with PD-L1 expression in gastric cancer. The results suggest that PTEN expression may serve as a useful marker for gastric cancer progression and the selection of immunotherapy-based treatments.
