A new microporous luminescent coordination polymer [(CH3)(2)NH2] center dot [Cu-2(CN)(3)] (1) with channels occupied by dimethylamine cations was synthesized due to the inducing effect of 2-(2'-pyridyl)imidazole. Complex 1 exhibits bright-green emission in the solid state, and its emission intensity would be significantly enhanced, especially by DMAc and cupric ion after immersing the as-synthesized crystals of 1 into common organic solvents or methanol solutions of various metal ions. In addition, 1 exhibits photo catalytic activity for the degradation of RhB and MB under natural light and is stable during the photocatalysis process. Thus, 1 can act as a multifunctional material for selectively sensing of Cu2+ and effectively photocatalytic degradation of dyes.

Silver Tipping of CdSe@CdS Nanorods: How To Avoid Cation Exchange

Kaituo Dong, Qiu-Cheng Chen, Zheng Xing, Yuexing Chen, Yuanshen Qi, Nicholas G. Pavlpoulos, Lilac Amirav

Summary: In this study, a new strategy is presented to prevent cation exchange and obtain metallic silver tipping on cadmium chalcogenide nanorods. The formation of Ag trioctylphosphine complex during Ag deposition on nanorods is identified as a critical step in preventing undesirable cation exchange. The study demonstrates moderate control over the size of crystalline Ag tip in the range of 1.5-5.4 nm.

Summary: Carbon-heteroatom cross-coupling reactions are important for industrial chemical processes, especially for the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and biologically active compounds. Photocatalyst/transition metal dual catalytic systems, using semiconductor nanoparticles as heterogeneous light sensitizers, offer advantages such as low-cost production, tunable photophysical properties, easy separation, high photostability, and recyclability. The combination of CdSe@CdS nanorod photocatalysts with a Ni complex catalyst enables efficient selective light-induced C-O cross-coupling reactions, achieving high yield and impressive turnover numbers.

Summary: Type III dicopper centers are crucial in catalyzing the oxidation of catechols. Synthetic sapphyrin-chelated dicopper complexes have been isolated in different oxidation states and coordination geometries, showing distinctive colors and electronic spectra akin to heme enzymes. These complexes demonstrate biomimetic activity and aid in understanding reactive intermediates and the rate-limiting step of the reaction.
