Summary: A series of protic amines containing cyclic amidine substituents were synthesized and reacted with MnBr(CO)(5) to form cationic mononuclear Mn(i) complexes with a facial coordination mode. The amidine side arm was found to possess a strong electron donating ability, and one of the complexes exhibited high catalytic activity in the transfer hydrogenation of acetophenone. The redox properties of the complexes varied depending on the structure of the amidine, with a Mn complex featuring readily accessible electron acceptance showing significant current increase under CO2, indicating catalytic activity in CO2 electrochemical reduction.

Summary: Tripodal ion pair receptors 1 and 2 have been synthesized and shown to selectively bind with LiCl ion pairs. The H-1 NMR spectroscopic analyses combined with molecular mechanics calculations reveal that the lithium cation is bound to the receptor while the chloride anion interacts with the NHs of urea or amido indole groups via hydrogen bonds. Addition of fluoride releases the lithium cation from the receptors, while chloride and bromide form ion pair complexes with lithium.

Summary: This study demonstrates that the strong interaction between Ru single atoms and the second coordination sphere can enrich photogenerated electrons at Ru active sites and enhance N-2 photofixation activity. Mechanistic studies reveal that Ru-Co coordination serves as an additional photoelectron transfer channel, facilitating the photoreduction of N-2 into NH3.

Summary: The selective forging of carbon-boron bonds via C-H borylation can be achieved through the strategic placement of Lewis acids in the ligand periphery, allowing for mechanistic control. The researchers prepared various diphosphine iridium complexes with different ligands and showed that the P2B4Cy ligand scaffold with Lewis acidic boron groups can engage with N-heterocycles. The study also compared the catalytic borylation of 2-methylpyridine using different combinations of iridium salts and diphosphine ligands.

Summary: A new tripodal tris(amido) ligand system with an arene anchor was developed and applied to the coordination chemistry of rare earth metals. The mononuclear rare earth metal complexes were prepared in moderate to good yields through salt metathesis and alkane elimination reactions. The rare earth metal complexes displayed a trigonal planar coordination geometry in the solid state, different from the commonly observed trigonal pyramidal geometry.

Summary: We propose a ligand platform with appended ditopic Lewis acids for the capture/activation of diatomic substrates. Incorporation of two 9-borabicyclo[3.3.1]nonane (9-BBN) units on a carbon tethered to a pyridine pyrazole scaffold allows for coordination of Fe-II, Zn-II, and Ni-II. The additive effect of ditopic boranes compared to monotopic analogues is demonstrated through hydride ion affinity and competition experiments. The platform achieves high selectivity for binding NO2- in the presence of competitive anions and enables unique activation pathways for hydrazine capture.

Summary: Functionalization of a carbon electrode through the electrochemical reduction of ruthenium tris-bipyridine diazonium salts prepared in situ allows determination of anion nature in lithium and sodium battery electrolyte, detecting the presence of PF6- and ClO4- anions as well as fluoride anions from PF6- degradation. The study found a linear relationship between the current response and F- concentration, which has been applied to aging battery electrolyte to confirm the low solubility of LiF. This behavior could aid in analyzing electrolytes from the recycling sector.

Summary: Studies have been conducted on the supramolecular chemistry of iso-tellurazole N-oxides in non-polar media. However, this study introduces a derivatized iso-tellurazole N-oxide that is soluble in polar solvents and stable in aqueous media. The compound forms macrocyclic complexes with nickel (II) and iron (II) through CTe...O chalcogen bonds and kappa(6)-O bound to the metal ion, which is different from the complexes formed by soft metal ions.

Summary: The potential of ruthenium(II) arene complexes in catalytic transfer hydrogenation has been widely investigated, but studies on homologous compounds with tris(1-pyrazolyl)methane (tpm) ligand are lacking. In this study, RuCl(kappa(3)-tpm)(PPh3)(2)]Cl reacted with various nitrogen ligands to form [RuCl(kappa(3)-tpm)(PPh3)(L)]Cl (L=NCMe, NCPh, imidazole) in nearly quantitative yields. These complexes were evaluated as catalytic precursors in the transfer hydrogenation of ketones, and complex 2 exhibited the highest activity.

Summary: Properly positioned second-coordination sphere functional groups play a crucial role in enhancing catalytic activity, altering product selectivity, and reducing the energy cost for desired chemical transformations. By investigating Re(bpy) catalysts with second-sphere tertiary amine groups, we found that the DMA-substituted tertiary amine complexes show the highest turnover frequency and turnover number, and the catalysis is predominantly governed by inductive electronic effects.

Summary: A new method for recycling decomposed amine-cured epoxy resin as a curing agent was developed in this study. The recycled resin exhibited higher tensile strength and comparable tensile modulus due to the presence of aromatic amino groups. By replacing a portion of the original curing agent, the optimized formulation of the recycled resin showed tensile strength comparable to that of the virgin resin.

Summary: Convenient asymmetric reductive amination of benzylic ketones was developed using newly designed Cp*Ir complexes as catalysts. The reaction produced a range of benzo-fused and acyclic ketones with high chemo- and diastereoselectivities, using readily available beta-amino alcohols as chiral aminating agents. The catalytic performance remained excellent even at a low catalyst dosage, and the reaction could be scaled up to over 100 g.
