Summary: This study explores an easy and sound way to modify the biological behavior of microspheres for bone tissue regeneration. Nanoclay can successfully sediment on the surface of microspheres, binding with either positively or negatively charged proteins. These properties facilitate cell proliferation and minimize the use of BMP-2.

Summary: This study investigated the covalent binding of recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein-2 and -7 in stem cells and its effects on cell adhesion, migration, and osteogenesis. The presence of both proteins enhanced cell adhesion but limited cell motility, while the presence of single proteins promoted cell migration activity. Additionally, the coexistence of the proteins significantly increased early osteogenic marker expression.

Summary: This study designed a multilayer polyelectrolyte coating that can promote the integration of metallic implants with bone and possess antibacterial properties. Stable coatings were constructed on titanium alloy substrates using a layer-by-layer technology, allowing for the sustained release of bone morphogenetic protein 2 and promotion of cell differentiation. Additionally, the polycationic component in the coating significantly improved the antibacterial properties of the titanium alloy surface.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the efficacy of CBD-BMP-2 in treating lumbar inter-transverse defects in aged rats with osteopenia and explore the potential of platelet-rich plasma to enhance osteogenesis. In vitro experiments demonstrated the angiogenic and osteogenic effects of platelet-rich plasma and CBD-BMP-2. In vivo experiments showed promising results in promoting lumbar inter-transverse fusion and improving bone healing, especially when combining CBD-BMP-2 with platelet-rich plasma.

Summary: The study modified the surface of polyetheretherketone (PEEK) with sandblasting and polydopamine (PDA) to incorporate a gelatin hydrogel, enabling sustained release of growth factors and osteogenic differentiation of stem cells. The success of gelatin hydrogel binding and degradation with PEEK (GPEEK) was confirmed, along with mineralization in simulated body fluid. The sustained release of bone morphogenetic protein (BMP)-2 in GPEEK led to osteogenic differentiation of human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs). PEEK with a gelatin hydrogel incorporating BMP-2 shows promise as a substrate for bone tissue engineering.

Summary: In this study, the dose of bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2) was reduced and its safety and efficacy were improved through the regulation of magnesium ion (Mg2+). Magnesium ion enhanced cellular bioenergetic levels and the osteoinductivity of BMP-2. A co-delivery system, fabricated using microfluidic and 3D printing technologies, was able to rapidly and robustly induce bone regeneration.

Summary: The study developed a thermosensitive hydrogel loaded with BMP-2 and OPG to promote bone formation and inhibit osteoclast activity, which was then used to construct 3D-printed composite scaffolds. These scaffolds facilitated osteogenic differentiation, reduced osteoclastic activation, and improved bone ingrowth and osseointegration through sustained release of BMP-2 and OPG.

Summary: This study investigated the potential influence of the FTO gene on body mass and composition in women with anorexia undergoing nutrition therapy. The results showed significant differences in BMI, fat mass, and fat/muscle area ratio among different FTO genotypes during treatment. However, the study did not find evidence to support the need for personalized nutrition therapy based on FTO genotype.

Summary: Studies have found that in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), serum B1x is associated with improved survival, changes in abdominal aortic calcification score, and aortic pulse wave velocity (PWV). Patients with B1x as an indicator have lower bone turnover, suggesting a reduced cardiovascular risk profile.

Summary: This case-control study aimed to investigate potential differences in circulating miRNAs between young individuals with long-duration type 1 diabetes (T1D) and healthy controls, as well as the expression of these identified miRNAs across different tissues. The results showed that 27 miRNAs were upregulated and one was downregulated in T1D. Six of these miRNAs were tissue-enriched. These findings have important implications for studying biomarkers for diabetes-related complications.
