Sung-Yong Kim, Sung Hwa Bae, Soo-Mee Bang, Ki-Seong Eom, Junshik Hong, Seongsoo Jang, Chul Won Jung, Hee-Jin Kim, Ho Young Kim, Min Kyoung Kim, Soo-Jeong Kim, Yeung-Chul Mun, Seung-Hyun Nam, Jinny Park, Jong-Ho Won, Chul Won Choi

Summary: In 2016, the World Health Organization revised the diagnostic criteria for myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) based on disease-driving genetic aberrations and analysis of patient characteristics. Recent studies show that additional somatic mutations impact patient prognosis. New treatment strategies and drugs have improved the management of MPNs.

Prognostic outcomes of cytomegalovirus reactivation after autologous stem cell transplantation

Byung-Hyun Lee, Min Ji Jeon, Eun Sang Yu, Ka -Won Kang, Dae Sik Kim, Se Ryeon Lee, Yong Park, Hwa Jung Sung, Chul Won Choi, Byung Soo Kim

Summary: This study analyzed the association between CMV reactivation and survival outcomes in patients undergoing auto-SCT and developed a predictive model for late CMV reactivation. The study found that early CMV reactivation was significantly associated with better overall survival in multiple myeloma patients, while late CMV reactivation, high lactate dehydrogenase level, and lymphoma diagnosis were independent risk factors for poor overall survival. The predictive risk model showed good discrimination in identifying high-risk patients for late CMV reactivation.

Implications of the 5th Edition of the World Health Organization Classification and International Consensus Classification of Myeloid Neoplasm in Myelodysplastic Syndrome With Excess Blasts and Acute Myeloid Leukemia

Cheonghwa Lee, Ha Nui Kim, Jung Ah Kwon, Soo -Young Yoon, Min Ji Jeon, Eun Sang Yu, Dae Sik Kim, Chul Won Choi, Jung Yoon

Summary: The WHO and ICC have recently published updated classifications of myeloid neoplasms. A study was conducted to examine the changes in diagnosis distribution among MDS-EB and AML patients using these new classifications. The results showed that approximately 31.9% of the patients were reclassified based on the 2022 classifications, primarily due to changes in mutation-based diagnostic criteria. The detection of multi-hit TP53 alterations at diagnosis was found to be important for prognosis in MDS-EB patients. Implementation of these classifications may lead to the identification of different subtypes based on genetic characteristics.
