A nonclassical tetrazole isostere of glycine, viz. zwitterionic 5-ammoniomethyl-1H-tetrazolide, C2H5N5, (I), crystallizes in the chiral P3(1) space group, similar to gamma-glycine. The crystal packing of (I) is determined by a set of classical hydrogen bonds, forming a three-dimensional network that is practically the same as that in gamma-glycine. The Cu-II complex of (I), poly-[[ bis(mu(2)-5-aminomethyl-1H-tetrazolido-kappa N-3(1),N-5:N-4) copper(II)] dihydrate], {[Cu(C2H4N5)(2)]center dot 2H(2)O}(n), (II), is a layered coordination polymer formed as a result of tetrazole ring bridges. The Cu-II cations lie on inversion centres, are surrounded by four anions and adopt elongated octahedral coordination. Water molecules are located in the interlayer space and connect the layers into a three-dimensional network via a system of hydrogen bonds.

Direct Synthesis and Characterization of Copper(II) 1-Phenyltetrazol-5-olates

Sergei V. Voitekhovich, Alexander S. Lyakhov, Ludmila S. Ivashkevich, Alexander N. Lavrov, Ludmila G. Lavrenova, Oleg A. Ivashkevich

Summary: The interaction of 1-phenyl-1,4-dihydro-5H-tetrazol-5-one (Hpto) with ethylenediamine (en) and metallic copper in ethanol in the open air yields different molecular complexes, with the tetrazol-5-one ligand exhibiting different coordination states. The binuclear complex shows paramagnetism with weak antiferromagnetic exchange interaction between copper ions.

Sergei V. Voitekhovich, Alexander S. Lyakhov, Ludmila S. Ivashkevich, Vadim E. Matulis, Yuri Grigoriev, Jennifer Klose, Berthold Kersting, Oleg A. Ivashkevich

Summary: In this study, a new tetrazole ligand, 5-amino-2-isopropenyltetrazole, was synthesized and found to form a complex with copper(II) chloride. Through experimental and analytical methods, the mechanism of action and structural characteristics of the ligand in the complex were revealed, showing weak antiferromagnetic coupling of copper(II) ions.

2,6-Di(1H-tetrazol-1-yl)pyridine and its cupric chloride complex

Evgeny Y. Grigoryev, Inna M. Grigorieva, Alexander S. Lyakhov, Ludmila S. Ivashkevich, Vadim E. Matulis, Ludmila G. Lavrenova, Sergei V. Voitekhovich, Yuri Grigoriev

Summary: 2,6-Di(1H-tetrazol-1-yl)pyridine (DTP) was synthesized and its structure and coordination behavior were studied. The results showed that DTP adopts the thermodynamically most stable conformation and its pyridine ring nitrogen atom does not participate in coordination or intermolecular hydrogen bonding.

Dicopper(II) complexes with N3,N4-bridging 1-alkyltetrazoles: Synthesis, crystal structure, magnetic and thermodynamic properties

Summary: 1-R-Tetrazoles (R = Et, i-Pr, t-Bu) react with copper(II) tetrafluoroborate hexahydrate and copper(II) nitrate tetrahydrate to form complexes [Cu2L8(H2O)(2)]X-4, where L = 1-R-tetrazole and X = BF4 or NO3. The complexes are dinuclear cations [Cu2L8(H2O)(2)](4+), with six tetrazole ligands coordinating in a monodentate N4 fashion and two providing N-3,N-4 bridges between the copper(II) cations; water molecules complete the coordination of metal ions. Magnetic susceptibility measurements indicate weak antiferromagnetic coupling between the copper(II) ions. The complex [Cu2L8(H2O)(2)](BF4)(4) (L = 1-isopropyltetrazole) undergoes a temperature induced reversible single-crystal to single-crystal polymorphic phase transition. The standard thermodynamic characteristics of this transition as well as the standard thermodynamic functions of the compound in the temperature range of 80-370 K were determined using adiabatic calorimetry. Additionally, a mononuclear complex [CuL6](BF4)(2) (L = 1-ethyltetrazole) was obtained and structurally characterized during the investigation.
