Summary: The study found that while many fellowship programs train in Pediatric Procedural Sedation (PPS), there is a lack of consistency in both education and evaluation of this skill. Some programs offer a formal PPS rotation, most use propofol for training, and just over half of fellows report sedating without attending oversight.

Summary: The survey shows that most GH fellows are satisfied with their training and anticipate career benefits, and are willing to recommend fellowship training to others. Challenges include insufficient funding, mentorship, and formal curricula. The majority of GH fellows believe that conducting research in high-income countries is a significant negative predictor of fellowship satisfaction.

Summary: Clerkships are important experiences for medical students to integrate basic science knowledge with clinical practice. However, there are concerns that students lack sufficient knowledge of anatomy. A needs assessment was conducted to determine the importance of anatomy for different core clerkships. The study provides evidence-based anatomy content that can support the clinical training of medical students.

Summary: Regular physical activity provides various health benefits, but its promotion in clinical practice is lacking due to insufficient training in exercise medicine. To address this issue, the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine developed curricular guidance for medical education at different levels to integrate exercise medicine and physical activity promotion. By enhancing medical education, clinicians will be able to integrate exercise medicine and physical activity promotion effectively in their practice, leading to healthier and more physically active patients.

Summary: There is a lack of social medicine and health advocacy curricula in postgraduate medical education, specifically in the field of emergency medicine (EM) in Canada. This commentary aims to address the need for cultural competence in providing care for sexual and gender minority (SGM) populations by borrowing evidence from other specialties in North America. The scarcity of SGM curricula can be attributed to the lack of formal recognition by accreditation boards and professional membership associations.

Summary: This study utilized a mixed methodology to explore the extent of lifestyle medicine teaching in medical education and its impact on medical students. Based on the mapping process, it was found that there is a need for the integration of competency-based, experiential teaching in the curriculum, particularly in the clinical years. Students showed confidence in providing general lifestyle medicine counseling but had lower confidence in specific areas such as exercise, nutrition, stress, sleep, and sexuality. Staff recognized the importance of lifestyle medicine but faced challenges such as time limitations and the need for external experts.

Summary: Calls for curricular reform in medical schools to better integrate basic and clinical science have led to a shift towards enhancing the clinical relevance of foundational science instruction and providing early exposure to the clinical environment. However, challenges such as the nature of clinical practice, time constraints, and limited faculty knowledge have hindered the full realization of these reforms. Despite efforts to integrate basic science into clerkships, more support and resources are needed to overcome barriers and fully incorporate basic science education into clinical training.

Summary: The demand for subspecialty-trained neurologists is increasing alongside the burden of neurological diseases. Despite the significant burden of diseases like headache and neurodegenerative disorders, recruitment into these subspecialties in the United States remains insufficient. Educators from the American Academy of Neurology discussed the current landscape of neurology fellowships, recruitment factors, and educational barriers, proposing suggestions to enhance recruitment for under-selected fellowships.
