This paper explores the dynamics of respiratory gases interactions which are accompanied by the loss of water through an insect's spiracle. Here we investigate and analyze this interaction by deriving a system of ordinary differential equations for oxygen, carbon dioxide, and water vapor. The analysis is carried out in continuous time. The purpose of the research is to determine bounds for the gas volumes and to discuss the complexity and stability of the equilibria. Numerical simulations also demonstrate the dynamics of our model utilizing the new conditions for stability and instability.

A fractional order differential equation model for Hepatitis B virus with saturated incidence

S. M. Simelane, P. G. Dlamini

Summary: This manuscript presents a nonlinear fractional order Hepatitis B virus (HBV) model with a saturated incidence, using Caputo fractional derivatives to define model governing equations and exploring dynamics through numerical solutions. The model's basic properties are discussed, dynamics are described based on the reproductive number R-0, and stability of equilibrium points is determined using the fractional Routh-Hurwitz stability criterion. The results highlight the importance of fractional order in modeling HBV transmission dynamics and the significance of including memory effects for a more appropriate and insightful study.

Summary: The edible Macrotermes termite species in the Vhembe District of South Africa's Limpopo Province are important for food security and livelihoods. This study examined the nutritional composition of two commonly consumed Macrotermes species, finding that they have high protein and mineral content that could contribute to human health improvements.

Respiratory Strategies in Relation to Ecology and Behaviour in Three Diurnal Namib Desert Tenebrionid Beetles

Frances D. Duncan

Summary: The respiratory physiology of three diurnal ultraxerophilous darkling beetles in the Namib Desert was investigated, revealing differences in respiration mechanics related to the ecology of the species. The largest beetle species used evaporative cooling to prevent over-heating, while the smaller beetles minimized respiratory water loss and conserved body water to stay active longer.

Highly Accurate Compact Finite Difference Schemes for Two-Point Boundary Value Problems with Robin Boundary Conditions

James Malele, Phumlani Dlamini, Simphiwe Simelane

Summary: This study applies a high-order compact finite difference method to solve boundary value problems with Robin boundary conditions. New higher-order finite difference schemes for approximating Robin boundary conditions are developed. Six examples are used to test and compare the method's applicability and performance. The results demonstrate that the method produces highly accurate results.

An Efficient Spectral Method-based Algorithm for Solving a High-dimensional Chaotic Lorenz System

Phumlani Dlamini, Simphiwe Simelane

Summary: In this paper, the multidomain spectral relaxation method was implemented to study high-dimensional chaos, specifically focusing on the nine-dimensional Lorenz system. By decomposing the main interval into subdomains, the multidomain approach significantly improves the accuracy and efficiency of the numerical method for chaotic systems.
