J591 functionalized paclitaxel-loaded PLGA nanoparticles successfully inhibited PSMA overexpressing LNCaP cells

Iman Ehsan, Leena Kumari, Ramkrishna Sen, Ashique Al Hoque, Biswajit Mukherjee, Alankar Mukherjee, Prasanta Ghosh, Sanchari Bhattacharya

Summary: This study evaluated the chemotherapeutic efficacy of J591 fabricated poly(d,l)-lactic-co-glycolic acid (PLGA) nanoparticles containing paclitaxel (Ab-PTX-NP) in vitro in PSMA expressing prostate cancer cells. The results showed elevated cellular cytotoxicity and maximum apoptosis in PSMA-abundant LNCaP cells compared to PSMA negative PC3 cells. Pharmacokinetic data demonstrated the bioavailability of paclitaxel in the systemic circulation of male Balb/c mice. The study highlights the novel use of J591 as a carrier to deliver chemotherapeutic nanoparticles directly to affected prostate cancer cells.

Surface-functionalized luteolin-loaded nanocarriers successfully delayed lung cancer progress in rats

Ramkrishna Sen, Biswajit Mukherjee, Soumya Ganguly, Samarendu Sinha

Summary: Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death, resulting in approximately 1.8 million deaths annually. In this study, nanoparticle-based drug delivery system, specifically targeting lung cancer cells, was developed using triticum-lectin protein (TA) coupled with luteolin (LUT). The TA-conjugated LUT nanoparticles showed high internalization and specific cytotoxic potential in lung cancer cells, leading to improved histology and lung ultrastructure. This study highlights the potential of TA-conjugated LUT nanoparticles as a promising therapeutic approach for lung carcinogenesis.

Harnessing the potential of probiotics in the treatment of alcoholic liver disorders

Garima Mishra, Pradeep Singh, Mulugeta Molla, Yohannes Shumet Yimer, Subas Chandra Dinda, Phool Chandra, Bhuvnesh Kumar Singh, Samuel Berihun Dagnew, Abraham Nigussie Assefa, Amien Ewunetie

Summary: Prolonged alcohol consumption is increasing the risk of alcohol-associated liver diseases, and the gut-liver axis plays a crucial role in their progression. Alcohol-induced gut microbiota imbalance stimulates dysbiosis, disrupts the intestinal barrier function, and triggers immune and inflammatory responses, further aggravating liver injury. Probiotics have been extensively researched to alleviate alcohol-related liver diseases and improve liver health.

PEG Based Suppositories Bearing Anti-Tubercular Drugs: Effect of Drug Loading on Release and Physical Properties

Anurag Verma, Amit Verma, Prashant Kumar, Bibhash Chandra Mohanta, Subas C. Dinda

Summary: The study investigates the incorporation of anti-tubercular drugs, Rifampin and Isoniazid, into polyethylene glycol-based suppositories bases. It was found that the choice of drug influences the solid structure and release mechanism, with significant changes observed in dissolution time and hardness at 40% drug loading. Furthermore, Rifampin exhibited faster release rate compared to Isoniazid in vitro release studies.
