Resources are limited, thus improving resource use efficiency is a key objective for cereal-based cropping systems. This field study was carried out to quantify resource use efficiencies in selected C-3 and C-4 cereals under split nitrogen (N) application regimes. The study included the following treatments: six cereals (three C-3: wheat, oat, and barley; and three C-4: maize, millet, and sorghum) and four split N application regimes (NS1 = full amount of N at sowing; NS2 = half N at sowing + half N at first irrigation; NS3 = 1/3 N at sowing + 1/3 N at first irrigation + 1/3 N at second irrigation; NS4 = 1/4 N at sowing + 1/4 N at first irrigation + 1/4 N at second irrigation + 1/4 N at third irrigation). Results revealed that C-4 cereals out-yielded C-3 cereals in terms of biomass production, grain yield, and resource use efficiencies (i.e., radiation use efficiency (RUE) and nitrogen use efficiency (NUE)), while splitting N into three applications proved to be a better strategy for all of the selected winter and summer cereals. The results suggest that C-4 cereals should be added into existing cereal-based cropping systems and N application done in three installments to boost productivity and higher resource use efficiency to ensure food security for the burgeoning population.

Summary: This study identified and classified 43 Potassium Transport System (PTS) genes in the Gossypium raimondii genome. Comparative analysis with other plant species revealed variations in the conservation of these genes. Promoter region analysis predicted stress-responsive elements. The results provide valuable information for further functional characterization of these genes for stress-resistant cultivars.

Synchronisation of zinc application rates with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi and phosphorus to maximise wheat growth and yield in zinc-deficient soil

Fariha Ilyas, Muhammad Arif Ali, Abdulaah Modhish, Niaz Ahmed, Sajjad Hussain, Muhammad Bilal, Muhammad Arshad, Subhan Danish, Adel M. Ghoneim, Ayesha Ilyas, Arslan Akram, Shah Fahad, Mohammad Javed Ansari, Rahul Datta

Summary: Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) play a crucial role in promoting plant growth and productivity, particularly under poor soil fertility. The balance between zinc (Zn) and phosphorus (P) application is important for maximizing crop yield. The study found that AMF colonization increases under deficient Zn and P conditions. Higher soil Zn levels inhibit germination and plant growth, but AMF inoculation greatly improves these factors. The optimal treatment for wheat growth in Zn-deficient conditions is the application of low Zn levels (30 or 60 mg kg(-1)) with 21 mg kg(-1) P, in combination with AMF inoculation.

Summary: In this study, we prove a parameterized integral identity involving differentiable functions and use it to establish new inequalities for differentiable harmonically convex functions. These analytic inequalities and their solution approaches have applications in various domains where symmetry is important. We also discuss several specific cases of recently discovered results and their applications to special means of real numbers.

Summary: This paper presents the modeling and simulation of design variants of 4H-SiC Thyristor, exploring the key performance parameters related to high blocking voltage. By employing advanced numerical algorithms and physical models, the electrical characteristics are improved by adjusting the structural parameters. The obtained results are compared with theoretical data, demonstrating a good agreement between the simulated and theoretical values.

Simpson's and Newton's Type Inequalities for (α, m)-Convex Functions via Quantum Calculus

Jarunee Soontharanon, Muhammad Aamir Ali, Huseyin Budak, Kamsing Nonlaopon, Zoya Abdullah

Summary: In this paper, the generalized versions of quantum Simpson's and quantum Newton's formula type inequalities are presented using quantum differentiable (alpha, m)-convex functions. These new inequalities have the advantage of being able to be converted into other types of inequalities without separate proofs, which can be helpful in numerical integration. These analytic inequalities and related strategies have applications in various fields where symmetry is important.

Modeling the potential impact of climate change on maize-maize cropping system in semi-arid environment and designing of adaptation options

Ghulam Abbas, Mukhtar Ahmed, Zartash Fatima, Sajjad Hussain, Ahmed M. S. Kheir, Sezai Ercisli, Shakeel Ahmad

Summary: Climate change is negatively affecting crop productivity and food security. This study aims to quantify the response of maize yield to projected climate change and suggests adaptation options to counterbalance the impact. The results show that without adaptation, grain yield will be reduced in both spring and autumn seasons, but adopting adaptation strategies can increase grain yield. Therefore, farmers should adopt these strategies to reduce the negative impact of climate change on maize yield.

Identifying the Role of Biostimulants in Turnip (Brassica rapa L.) Production Compared with Chemical Fertilization

Qurat-Ul-Ain Raza, Muhammad Amjad Bashir, Abdur Rehim, Yucong Geng, Hafiz Muhammad Ali Raza, Sajjad Hussain, Ijaz Ahmad, Muhammad Wasif

Summary: Chemical fertilizers have played a significant role in boosting food production and ensuring food security, but their excessive use has had negative impacts on soil and the environment. Two pot experiments were conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of biostimulants in vegetable production. The results showed that vitamin B complex and a combination of glycine, aspartic acid, and lysine improved plant performance and yield compared to chemical fertilizers. However, further research is needed to assess the long-term effects of biostimulants on soils, nutrient-use efficiency, and crop production. Rating: 8/10

EFFECT OF SOIL AND FOLIAR APPLIED MICRONUTRIENT CONSORTIA ON ALLEVIATION OF MICRONUTRIENT DEFICIENCY IN KINNOW (CITRUS NOBLIS X CITRUS DELICIOSA)

Niaz Ahmed, Ghulam Sabir Hussain, Sajjad Hussain, Riaz Hussain, Iftikhar Ahmad, Javed Iqbal, Mumtaz Hussain Farooqi, Muhammad Mubashir, Mahmoud Moustafa, Muhammad Arif Ali

Summary: The deficiency of micronutrients in citrus orchards is a significant issue that affects fruit quality and yield. Factors such as high soil pH, electrical conductivity, CaCO3, and low organic matter contents can decrease the uptake of micronutrients in plants. Foliar application of micronutrients is an effective approach to alleviate this issue, increasing nutrient uptake and reducing the need for inorganic fertilizers. This study explored the effectiveness of micronutrient consortia application to address micronutrient deficiency in citrus, and found that a specific treatment (T10) was the most effective in improving fruit weight, diameter, seed number, and overall yield compared to other treatments.

Muhammad Najmi Mohamad Ali Mastor, Mariyana Aida Ab Kadir, Nurizaty Zuhan, Kasali Adebayo Mujedu, Mohd Zamri Rarnli, Ramadhansyah Putra Jaya, Norhazilan Md Noor, Mohamad Syazwan Ahmad Shah

Summary: This paper investigates the performance of rubberized pozzolanic concrete-filled hollow steel column (RuPCFHS) under monotonic and cyclic lateral load, and compares it to bare hollow steel column and normal concrete-filled hollow steel column (NCFHS). The results show that the performance of the columns improved when concrete infill was introduced in the hollow steel, and the application of axial loading increased the capacity of the column specimens. RuPCFHS exhibited comparable performance with NCFHS and recorded the highest increment in energy dissipation capability when 20% axial load was applied.
