Summary: In-space manufacturing is attracting great attention for its potential applications in space exploration. However, the unique challenges posed by the high-vacuum and microgravity environment need to be addressed. Inspired by the ability of spiders to build webs under microgravity conditions, a strategy for additive manufacturing in space using metallic ribbons and bonded joints is proposed. Various 3D metallic structures are manufactured and their flexibility and strength are tested. The results show that the tensile strength of these structures reaches about 70% of that of the raw materials, while their hardness remains nearly unchanged. This provides an effective method for manufacturing complex metallic structures in space.

Summary: The paper discusses the CNC component manufacturing process using the WAAM process. It describes all the execution steps from CAD drawing to examination and economic calculation. The WAAM process proves to be more advantageous, especially when a single piece is needed and expensive titanium alloys are used. The cost of obtaining a component using the WAAM process is significantly lower compared to using another manufacturing process, as shown in this paper. In conclusion, additive manufacturing can be a feasible solution for industrial applications when replacing a classic manufacturing process.
