Immediate dental implant placement with a horizontal gap more than two millimetres: a randomized clinical trial

B. M. Naji, S. S. Abdelsameaa, A. Y. Alqutaibi, W. M. Said Ahmed

Summary: The study evaluated horizontal dimensional changes and pain intensity after different dental implant procedures, concluding that the 'flapless without graft' technique yields similar results to the 'flap with graft' technique in the maxillary premolar area with a horizontal gap >2 mm, when the bone plate is intact.

Early detection of oral cancer and potentially malignant disorders: Experiences, practices, and beliefs of prosthodontists practicing in Saudi Arabia

Ahmed Yaseen Alqutaibi, Sary Borzangy, Sadeq A. Al-Maweri, Afaf Aboalrejal

Summary: Prosthodontists in Saudi Arabia show a relatively positive attitude towards oral cancer screening, but have lower rates of examination at recall visits and providing smoking cessation advice. Most prosthodontists believe they can detect oral cancer themselves, but barriers such as training, confidence, time, and financial incentives still exist.

Clinical performance of single implant-supported ceramic and metal-ceramic crowns: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials

Ahmed Yaseen Alqutaibi, Ahmad Abdulkareem Alnazzawi, Radwan Algabri, Afaf N. Aboalrejal, Mohammed Hosny AbdElaziz

Summary: This systematic review and meta-analysis compared the clinical performance of ceramic and metal-ceramic implant-supported single crowns in terms of prosthesis failure, complication rate, and patient satisfaction. The study found no statistically significant differences between ceramic and MC crowns in terms of these outcomes. Therefore, the choice of single implant crown material may depend on the preference of the dentist and patient.

SALIVA MAY BE CONSIDERED AS RELIABLE TOOL FOR DIAGNOSIS OF COVID-19 WHEN COMPARED WITH NASOPHARYNX OR THROAT SWABS

Ahmed Yaseen Alqutaibi, Musab Hamed Saeed, Afaf Noman Aboalrejal

Summary: This review evaluated the use of saliva as a reliable tool for COVID-19 diagnosis and monitoring, finding that saliva shows comparable diagnostic performance to standard samples such as nasopharynx and throat swabs. However, there is a lack of understanding of salivary biomolecules that could be utilized for diagnostics in the context of COVID-19 infection.

Revolution of Current Dental Zirconia: A Comprehensive Review

Ahmed Yaseen Alqutaibi, Omar Ghulam, Majid Krsoum, Suhail Binmahmoud, Hasan Taher, Wael Elmalky, Muhammad Sohail Zafar

Summary: This article comprehensively reviews the revolution of dental zirconia, including its types, properties, applications, and cementation procedures. The study shows that monolithic translucent zirconia has significantly improved esthetics and translucency, with a high survival rate. This material can be used when strength and esthetics are needed, and the materials and methods for cementation have also been improved.

Clinical reliability of self-adhesive luting resins compared to other adhesive procedures: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Mohammed Ahmed Alghauli, Ahmed Yaseen Alqutaibi, Sebastian Wille, Matthias Kern

Summary: This systematic review aimed to collect and interpret the randomized clinical trials comparing self-adhesive luting resins with other adhesive protocols. The results showed that postoperative sensitivity might not be affected by the adhesive protocol. Overall, selective etch and self-etch adhesives demonstrated better clinical outcomes compared to self-adhesive resins. Rating: 8 out of 10.

Enhanced Tooth Region Detection Using Pretrained Deep Learning Models

Mohammed Al-Sarem, Mohammed Al-Asali, Ahmed Yaseen Alqutaibi, Faisal Saeed

Summary: This study aims to develop a deep learning-based model that detects the position of missing teeth from CBCT images. The experiment showed that the DenseNet169 model performed better in terms of accuracy, providing a promising tool for time-saving and automated dental implant planning.

Clinical outcomes and influence of material parameters on the behavior and survival rate of thin and ultrathin occlusal veneers: A systematic review

Mohamed Alghauli, Ahmed Yaseen Alqutaibi, Sebastian Wille, Matthias Kern

Summary: This review investigates the clinical observational findings and in-vitro outcomes of thin and ultrathin occlusal veneers using different materials and approaches. It concludes that clinically used 1 mm lithium disilicate overlays and ultrathin one-step no-prep polymer infiltrated ceramic network (PICN) occlusal veneers exhibit high success and survival rates. The analysis of in-vitro studies shows variable survival rates and fracture load values based on materials, thickness, and restorative approaches used.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE MODELS SHOW POTENTIAL IN RECOGNIZING THE DENTAL IMPLANT TYPE, PREDICTING IMPLANT SUCCESS, AND OPTIMIZING IMPLANT DESIGN

Ahmed yaseen Alqutaibi

Summary: This study reviewed 17 articles on the application of artificial intelligence in implant dentistry. The use of AI models showed promising results in implant type recognition, implant success prediction, and implant design optimization. However, more research is needed in this field as it is still in progress.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI) AS AN AID IN RESTORATIVE DENTISTRY IS PROMISING, BUT STILL A WORK IN PROGRESS

Ahmed Yaseen Alqutaibi, Afaf Noman Aboalrejal

Summary: This study comprehensively evaluated the diagnostic performance of artificial intelligence (AI) models in detecting dental caries and vertical tooth fractures, identifying tooth preparation margins, and predicting restoration failure in restorative dentistry. The eligibility criteria included clinical and in vitro studies, and a manual and electronic search was conducted in 5 databases. Two reviewers independently screened the literature, extracted data, and assessed bias, with disagreement addressed by a third reviewer.

Impact of Acrylic and Silicone-Based Soft-Liner Materials on Biting Force and Quality of Life of the Complete Denture Wearers: A Randomized Clinical Trial

Ahmed Yaseen Alqutaibi, Ahmad A. Alnazzawi, Ahmed E. Farghal, Ramy M. Bakr, Ihab Ismail Mahmoud

Summary: This randomized clinical trial assessed the impact of soft liners on biting force, pain perception, and oral health-related quality of life in complete denture wearers. The results showed that both acrylic-based and silicone-based soft liners significantly improved the OHRQoL of the patients at one-month and three-month follow-up periods compared to baseline records. There was no difference in maximum biting force between the two groups at one month, but after three months, the silicone-based group had a significantly higher biting force than the acrylic-based group.

Polymeric Denture Base Materials: A Review

Ahmed Yaseen Alqutaibi, Abdulmajeed Baik, Sarah A. Almuzaini, Ahmed E. Farghal, Ahmad Abdulkareem Alnazzawi, Sary Borzangy, Afaf Noman Aboalrejal, Mohammed Hosny AbdElaziz, Ihab Ismail Mahmoud, Muhammad Sohail Zafar

Summary: An ideal denture base must possess good physical and mechanical properties, biocompatibility, and esthetic properties. Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) is the most commonly used biomaterial for denture fabrication, but it has limitations and needs improvement. This review comprehensively discusses the types, properties, modifications, applications, and recent developments in denture base materials (DBMs), with a focus on enhancing the physical and mechanical properties of PMMA through chemical modifications and mechanical reinforcement. Specific research is needed to improve the biological properties of DBMs and address adverse reactions to potentially harmful substances.
